Johnny, They Hardly Knew Ye

John McCain’s death is being used by the Left, especially The New York Times, to praise McCain to the sky and to take the opportunity to bash President Trump, an adversary of McCain.  Newsbusters provides the service of recalling what the Times said about McCain a decade ago:

After the Obama camp huffily accused McCain of playing the race card for ads likening Obama to a Hollywood celebrity [?], the paper turned the issue around and accused McCain campaign manager Rick Davis of injecting race into the race by fighting back against the charge:

With his rejoinder about playing “the race card,” Mr. Davis effectively assured that race would once again become an unavoidable issue as voters face an election in which, for the first time, one of the major parties’ nominees is African-American. And with its criticism, the McCain campaign was ensuring that Mr. Obama’s race — he is the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas — would again be a factor in coverage of the presidential race….

The Times editorial board posted a ridiculous blog entry calling the ad a “racially tinged attack” on Obama:

The editorial board’s official editorial endorsement of Obama underlined the racist smear: “In the same time, Senator John McCain of Arizona has retreated farther and farther to the fringe of American politics, running a campaign on partisan division, class warfare and even hints of racism. His policies and worldview are mired in the past.

Affair with Lobbyist?

The Times got in trouble even among its liberal media colleagues with its purported bombshell about concerns by McCain’s Senate staff that he had been conducting an affair with lobbyist Vicki Iseman. But the unsubstantiated story fizzled and the paper ended up paying Iseman a settlement for suggesting her relationship with McCain was inappropriate.

McCain as P.O.W.

Reporter Elisabeth Bumiller wrote about McCain visiting New Orleans, site of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina: “Mr. McCain has seemed both moved and awkward this week, and at times defensive about his own more privileged past.”

Did her reckoning of McCain’s “privileged past” included his five-and-a-half years in a P.O.W. camp in North Vietnam?

In fact, not even McCain’s years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam were off-limits, at least in the paper’s Sunday magazine, which printed a smear by left-wing author Gore Vidal accusing McCain of being a phony P.O.W.

Magazine writer Matt Bai tastelessly suggested McCain, as an isolated prisoner of war, had failed to learn the correct liberal lessons from Vietnam.

Go here to read the rest.  For the Left the only good Republicans are dead ones, and the purpose of dead Republicans is to be weaponized against current Republicans.

Camille Paglia offered 15 years ago that people who fancied The New York Times was the paper of record hadn’t read it carefully in 20 years. Since A.M. Rosethal’s retirement, each successive editor has produced a paper with less integrity than his predecessor. To some extent, it may be derived from the generational shift in the culture of people who go into journalism for a living, but I have read that The New York Times has a quite different newsroom culture than The Los Angeles Times with the contents of the latter emerging consequent to editors querying their staff as to what they’re working on and hearing, while the former has assignments determined by narratives determined at the top. In truth, I have a strong suspicion that if you put the current and previous Sulzberger boss under careful examination and put their direct reports under examination, you’d discover that they were all vain, unreflective, and uncurious. That’s why they produce a paper which hasn’t any integrity at all. Jeff Bezos buys the haemorrhaging Washington Post in order to replicate this with the spare cash from his profitable enterprises. And, of course, they’ve actually lost interest in substantive concerns which were derived from the warp and whoof of American life or the everyday function of public institutions. Compare their mentality to the Roosevelt Administration or the Carter Administration and you see that the liberal dispensation has been reduced to a series of status games. It has zero value.

As usual, Art Deco is correct.

With the NYT, in particular, and the leftist MSM, in general, it’s bearing false witness almost all the time. Some call it, “democrat fan fiction.”

It makes sense when you acknowledge the fact that the left-wing media/lie factories’ role is to advance leftist conspiracies against the American people and their way of life.

A metaphor for the media/academy/democrat “echo chamber” is (visualize) hundreds of mangy dogs eating each other’s vomit. I apologize for insulting mangy dogs.

I don’t care what newspapers and most TV news outlets say. They lie simply because they are liberal. So I rarely pay them any heed. That said, I never did like McCain. He has a very mixed history. He did some heroic things, I suppose, and some downright stupid (or worse) things as well. Suffice it to say that we shouldn’t speak ill of the dead. He is with God now at his Particular Judgment. I hope God will be merciful in spite of all his great many failings (since of course I want Him to be merciful on me).

“Maverick” meant a Republican willing to bash other Republicans for National Television coverage; not the best means to become a well known politician.

Bottom (being nasty, incendiary, provocative, ill-mannered) feeders in the MSM are only using the subject to vilify our President. Their concern is keeping D’s gleeful, supplying the public with pictures and captions for its emoji minds, and checking ratings. Agree with above comments, especially no value and mangy dogs. Pulitzer material MIA. Death is just another opportunity to make noise and misery.

The Left always hates Republicans when they’re alive and loves them when they’re out of office or deceased.
God forbid it, but if anything were to happen to Trump… he would then become the loved President and Pence would be come the hated one.
I’m old enough to have seen this done again and again: Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2, McCain, Romney….

Several times President Trump has been taken to task for saying that he preferred his heroes not to be caught, or some such thing. McCain was bashing trump supporters before Trump fired back. McCain never overlooked what Trump said. Considering what the LameStreamMedia said about McCain in 2008 – and McCain never held an open grudge against them – it shows what a hypocritical phony McCain was as politician.

I always suspected McCain was a democrat plant since the day he got to the senate. My suspicions were confirmed when a list of his pall bearers came out. At one of his three funerals. Yes he’s having three. All the pall pall bearers are either liberal Hollywood actors or democrat politicians. Not the first republican. His body will also lie in a state in the Capitol Retundra. Exactly like a head of state. Then his body will be paraded through Washington DC in a horse-drawn carriage. This over-the-top send-off for him is ridiculous. He despised Donald Trump because Trump, a man he considered a bumbling stooge, became president and he didn’t. That’s the reason democrats and the Deep State are praising this very flawed man to the hilt. He despised Trump to the day he died. But he did die happy, because Mitt Romney will became the resident Trump hater in the GOP. Another establishment loser.
