An Early Christmas Present For Trump

Republicans can always rely on Democrats to overreach:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Top House Democrats have raised the prospect of impeachment or the real possibility of prison time for President Donald Trump if it’s proved that he directed illegal hush-money payments to women, adding to the legal pressure on the president over the Russia investigation and other scandals.

“There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, the incoming chairman of the House intelligence committee. “The bigger pardon question may come down the road as the next president has to determine whether to pardon Donald Trump.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler, the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, described the details in prosecutors’ filings Friday in the case of Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, as evidence that Trump was “at the center of a massive fraud.”

“They would be impeachable offenses,” Nadler said.

Go here to read the rest.  The Democrats are going to ensure that their impeachment of Trump will be the dominant story of the next two years.  They will impeach Trump and the Republican dominated Senate will refuse to convict.  Trump will paint himself as an innocent victim pursued by the Swamp dwellers, eternal defenders of the status quo, and he will go into 2020 with an angry and aroused base.  This is lunacy from the standpoint of the Democrats, but they can’t help themselves.

If paying hush-money to women is illegal, there aren’t enough prisons to lock up all the politicians, media moguls, Hollywood celebrities etc. that are on the hook now that the party of the Kennedy boys, Gary Hart, Chris Dodd, Bill Clinton et. al. has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Junior Anti-Sex League.

I can’t imagine anyone actually buying what the Democrats appear willing to sell, everyone will know it’s about raw political power.
The dividing line will be “does the end justify the means” or does it not.
Which for the Dems means “business” as usual.

In fact, this is a huge nothing-burger. The metaphor is the drowning man grasping at anything.

There is an existential issue. Real Americas turned against the left in the glorious 2016 Presidential Election. They vetoed HRH Hillary’s “turn” at wrecking their lives. And, the port-side imbeciles can’t get over it.

Is the French/Paris insurrection the “Lexington and Concord” of normal people’s revolution against climate cult’s attempts at monarchial rule?

Paying hush money is a time-honored practice in American jurisprudence – it is called “settlement” and it happens in upwards of 90% of cases. In fact, without this “hush money,” the American judicial system would collapse under its own weight. Bad enough that it takes up to 4 or more years for civil cases to get to trial – without “hush money” they would be lucky to get to trial in 10 years. I don’t think plaintiff lawyers (some of the biggest backers of Democrats) want to wait around a decade for payday.

Again, one of those enterprising prosecutors tried to get John Edwards jailed with this same argument (bar that some of his payoff to Lisa Jo Druck / Alison Poole / Rielle Hunter was financed by donors). It failed. The sordidness of the whole Daniels / McDougal business is dismaying. That it is being advanced by people who would never say a critical word of Bill Clinton or John Kennedy is grotesquely amusing.

What its an indication of is less ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ than comprehensive derangement. You have people from the judiciary committees to street-level Democrats who I hear from on Fakebook who are unable to acknowledge realities which stand in the way of what they want. The promotion of a blatant grifter like Christine Blasey is the most telling event of the last year. It is difficult to imagine that 25 years ago Democratic members of Congress would have descended to that. They still had a sense of the ridiculous. I engage with partisan Democrats from time to time in various fora. The next one that admits the obvious – that Christine Blasey said nothing any serious person would take at face value or be expected to take at face value – will be the first.

Any person in any other arena who soared to this level of disdain of the so-called politics of another would have mandated to them by the courts a mental evaluation. This is a serious case for one to wonder exactly what does this President have that they are this petrified of him.
