In the midst of all this recent partisan strife and dissent, there is one truth we can join our President in affirming.
For those who haven’t kept abreast of the VH1 Music Video Awards — and honestly, I don’t blame you — here’s a refresher on the latest antics of the rapper you might remember for his infamous quip during a September 2005 Katrina Benefit:
A giddy Swift was in the midst of her acceptance speech for Best Female Video when the often-mercurial West rushed onstage, grabbed her microphone and let loose an outburst on behalf of singer Beyonce Knowles, who had lost out in that category. …
“Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he said, snatching the microphone from Swift after she had won her award.
Swift stood onstage, speechless, clutching her award.
Speaking to reporters later, Swift was understated about her take on the disruption.
“I was excited to be onstage because I just won the award. And then I was excited that Kanye West was onstage. Then, I wasn’t excited anymore,” she said.
According to CNN, the purveyor of the fine arts made a similar uninvited appearance onstage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards, when — disputing the judge’s decision — he claimed his music video deserved to win because it “cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it.”
I wonder how Kanye will respond to President Obama’s criticism? Perhaps: “Barack Obama doesn’t care about black people.”
I’may have to mark today in red…
Obama and I are as one on what a waste of space Mr. West is.
Common ground!
Yup, I and my friends thought the same thing, we figured it was all a set up by Kanye West in order to make someone’s career grow or prevent from going down…that’s Hollywood for you!!! Nothing is ever real expect maybe for some “real life” shows/reality shows, but even those, I’m sure, are edited to a certain extent.
