There is no area of American politics in which the press is more activist or biased or unethical than social issues, the so-called culture wars. And the culture of permissive abortion they favor has consequences, which they would rather not look squarely at, thank you very much.
[Quote from here.] Here’s some unsolicited advice for social conservatives: never, ever speak to large-circulation newspapers or television networks.
Why not? Because they our enemy, that’s why. They have concocted a narrative of breath-taking mendacity regarding us: we’re authoritarian haters, patriarchal tyrants straight from the pages of The Handmaid’s Tale, and/or killers of “providers of women’s health services.” Period. Stock villains, to be quoted briefly, if at all, and subject to well-poisoning adjectives like “strident,” or “militant,” or “inflexible.” And if there is a story that indicates social conservative arguments have merit, or threatens to move the ball in that direction–it gets downplayed or embargoed.
This will never end–they will never quit doing this–until the entire edifice of fraud goes bankrupt.
Exhibit A: the news embargo on the hellish millionaire abortionist Kermit Gosnell, alleged murderer of a 41 year old Asian immigrant, Karnamaya Mongar, and seven infants. One of the local reporters, someone who takes his profession seriously, says simply:
The Narrative Patrol
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
The media is afraid that by exposing the butchery of Gosnell, light will be shed on the abortion industry and, heaven forbid, more “abortion restrictive laws” will come to pass. Andrew McCarthy has an excellent, if difficult to read, essay on this at NRO. Too bad those who are for “women’s reproductive rights” won’t have the guts to read it or the Gosnell Grand Jury report.
Well, of course the media won’¡t cover the Gosnell trial. It would destroy their point of view, and they can’t have that, can they? Many find it comforting to live within the bubble of one’s own fantasies and lies.
A dirty and dangerous business. Those same murders are also done in very clean clinics with highly educated professionals.
I am tired of being mad at the media.
I feel responsible somehow- a bit like one of the holocaust deniers /ignorers who lived in the same countries where the holocausts of WWII took place. “all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to…”
I don’t know.
Here, Tuesdays are the day the female abortionist comes to town to do maybe 15 maybe 20 deaths on a given Tuesday. I know there have been ambulance calls there, but it is never in the public record in the paper.
Imagine the media outrage if they murdered babies with assault rifles and high magazine capacities.
There’s really no other example of a situation in which liberals are complicit in the protection of a money-making industry over the interests of individual people, especially the interests of poor, female, often non-white people. But the Gosnell trial blackout is exactly that…protection of the abortion industry at the expense of its victims.
