Good stuff indeed. No “Who am I to judge?” statements about the Mafia.

Human life matters little to the Mafia. They have behaved is if they know they are going to Hell and don’t really care.

An interesting point – Mussolini had almost eradicated the Mafia – and he signed the concordat with the Catholic Church that Created Vatican City and settled the issue of the seized Papal States. If Mussolini would have stayed out of WWII he might have died in bed of old age.

I am glad he spoke out clearly and unequivocally- it takes courage to do that and hopefully those Mafiosi will respond. That kind of courageous action is an evangelistic action.

Penguins Fan wrote, “Mussolini had almost eradicated the Mafia.”

Indeed, which is why the Friends furnished much useful intelligence for the Allied invasion of Sicily.

In 1976 when the US Supreme Court resumed permission for executions in the States, it did so noting that executions prevent a number of premeditated murders (not passion murders). The mafia’s murders are very premeditated and are more likely under death penalty abolition which these last three Popes affirmed verbally.
So I applaud them for rebuking the Mafia but I regret their sincere erroneous conscience in this matter which will get victims killed for decades and maybe for centuries to come. And I think a future Pope, far into the future, will apologize one day for this choice and those murdered …as he reintergrates Romans 13:4 back into the teaching.

Oh. that he would say these same words to those who commit, support, and promote abortion! They certainly are
apropos.

Thank you, bill bannon: ” The mafia’s murders are very premeditated and are more likely under death penalty abolition which these last three Popes affirmed verbally.”
Several states have banned the death penalty. Maryland and Delaware are currently in the process.
.
This is the finest definition of the principle of separation of church and state, I have ever read:
Lastly, he, (the Pope) is tied up and limited by that doctrine, divinely revealed, which affirms that alongside religious society there is civil society, that alongside the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy there is the power of temporal Magistrates, invested in their own domain with a full sovereignty, and to whom we owe in conscience obedience and respect in all things morally permitted, and belonging to the domain of civil society.”.

.
Capital punishment is Divine Retribution, reasserting God’s kingship over life and death. Capital punishment is the temporal punishment for capital one homicide. Every priest knows that unless the penitent is willing to do the punishment, his crimes are not forgiven. Every murderer must expire with grief over the thought of his crime. An unexpired murderer is an unrepentant murderer.
Imperfect contrition will bring the grace of perfect contrition.
Every second of life on death row gives the capital one, condemned murderer, insight into his everlasting soul. Life on death row brings the condemned murderer to realize that without the absolution of Christ through the priest in the Sacrament of Holy Penance of the Catholic Church, he will not be absolved of his crime. On death row, the capital one murderer meets Justice.
.
Sister Helen Prejean is all about banning capital punishment. Without death row, the condemned murderer, Sonnier, would not have repented. Prejean wants to take credit, but it was and is death row that converted the condemned Sonnier.

“This is the finest definition of the principle of separation of church and state, I have ever read:” From John Henry Cardinal Newman.

Edie Eason: “Oh. that he would say these same words to those who commit, support, and promote abortion! They certainly are apropos.”
Abortion is from the devil. The will of God in creating the immortal soul at the procreation of the newly begotten human being, the sovereign person, must be fully acknowledged. The human flesh is and becomes who the human soul in the mind of God is.
