Wave Coming

GOP wave

The fall elections are shaping up into what looks currently like a GOP wave election year:

A nationwide USA TODAY/Pew Research Center Poll shows the strongest tilt to Republican candidates at this point in a midterm year in at least two decades, including before partisan “waves” in 1994 and 2010 that swept the GOP into power. Though Election Day is  six months away — a lifetime in politics — at the moment, Democrats are saddled by angst over the economy, skepticism about the health care law and tepid approval of the president.

“People should start opening their eyes and seeing we’re not on track,” says Brenna Collins, 32, a small-business owner from Kasson, Minn., who was among those surveyed. “Not exactly saying Republicans are right but that things need to change.”

By more than 2-1, 65%-30%, Americans say they want the president elected in 2016 to pursue different policies and programs than the Obama administration, rather than similar ones.

In the 2014 elections, registered voters are inclined to support the Republican candidate over the Democrat in their congressional district by 47%-43%. That 4-percentage-point edge may seem small, but it’s notable because Democrats traditionally fare better among registered voters than they do among those who actually cast ballots, especially in low-turnout midterms.

Go here to USA Today to read the rest.  Pay special attention to the graph which shows this poll for midterms going back to 1994.  In 1994 when the Republicans gained 54 seats and took control of the House for the first time since 1948, they were two points behind in this poll.  In 2010 when the Republicans took the House and gained 63 seats, the poll was dead even.

Just heard someone on the radio discuss this, and I agree that we are rapidly approaching the point of no return. If the poll numbers don’t change within the next month, then I think we can count on another massive wave election.

I never underestimate the GOP’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Republican polices are just as dangerous to the Social Kingship of Christ as the Democrat policies. Communism is not dead, but thriving within the U.S. Please pray that Pope Francis consecrates Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

I agree with David Spaulding on this, and I am utterly convinced that the last election in 2012 were beset with fraud in key districts. And, what happened when the GOP had control of everything? The Federal government (anyway) did not shrink.

And, what happened when the GOP had control of everything? The Federal government (anyway) did not shrink.

In fairness:

1. A functional requirement of a supermajority in the Senate to pass legislation impedes reforms.

2. The census of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives averaged 226 (of 435 representatives) during the period running from 1994 to 2007. You get a scatter of political temporizers, people carrying water for parochial interests, and idiosyncratic complaints, your controversial legislation fails. (For instance, Barney Frank managed to block reforms intended to improve accounting practices at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac).

3. The Administration was distracted by the war and acted under compulsion of circumstance to increase the take of military spending. George W. Bush had an unambitious domestic agenda, so impetus had to derive from Congress, a Congress addled by ‘bi-partisan’ types like Richard Lugar.

Care to offer a detail or two?

Sometimes it isn’t an accident (see Mr. Boehner’s perigrinations re amnesty for illegal aliens). It would be pretty amusing if the current Speaker of the House were bounced in a primary election. Some polling indicates his support is quite soft. Ditto the Majority Leader of the Senate, A.M. (“ten-million-dollar-net-worth-on-45-years-of-government-salaries”) McConnell.

Trust.

What is it?

Term limits?
Oath swearing?
Handshake?

I do despise pessimism, however the optimism has been squeezed out of my heart by the self-serving politicians that have taken a position of honor and defiled it by their unbridled love of money.

America?
Where is America?
I just don’t see it anymore.
Poor me. A sucker, as Mr Potter would say.

Thanks Mr. McClarey.
“I do want to live.” 🙂

Seriously. I do want to trust. I was made to trust, to believe. I was made to honor God in man. To see God in man.
I do on occasion, and my heart is filled anew. I just have to remember who IS at the helm. Thanks for the reminder.

“In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

St. Luke 1:78,79 Part of our morning prayer.

It comes back to us.

Are we reflectors? Are we reflecting His light into the dark places where people dwell? The shadow of death? The snl skit came to mind as I was finishing Luke’s passage.
The tender compassion of our God.
I appreciate the humor however the reality is quite different.

Possibly Potter died alone. He remembers the self sacrificing action of the Baily nephew covering the prideful uncle. As Potter gasps for his last breath, he calls out for mercy. Mercy God. Have mercy on me a sinner!

George Baily slips into deep discouragement at the bridge, however the dawn from on high had been reflecting off of George his whole life.

“Charity took possession of my soul making me forget myself and I have been happy ever since.” St. Threse’ the lil’ flower.

Politics are essentially deceit and coercion (Orwell). The means to minimize the damage are found in the Constitution limiting their powers. On the contrary, for the past 100 years we the people have allowed the ruling elites to seize from us more and more of our power.

So it goes. We are “poor, banished children of Eve mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.” Our hope is that in the end, through no merit of our own, we may be found worthy of the “Promises of Christ.”

Be not indifferent to pain/sorrow or pleasure/joy. Offer each (a side on the same coin) up as it comes.

Forgive all (including imagined) injuries.

Pray (constantly) for the living and the dead (including those who injure/persecute you).

Therein, with Christ in your heart, lie strength, refuge, courage.

T. Shaw, I would submit that a large number of voting Americans have been more than willing to hand over freedom for what they think is security and it’s been going on since Teddy Roosevelt.

I agree with David Spaulding’s view, however. Never underestimate the power of the ‘GOP’ to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They remind me of the OLD SF 49’ers(1950-1968), whom my sainted father used to observe, had discovered more algorithms making them able to lose a lead and a game in the 4th qtr. than was mathematically possible in number theory. And yet, they did.

TR died in 1919. As late as 1929, the ratio of federal expenditure to domestic product was 0.017. Federal welfare spending was limited to veterans’ hospitals and analogues to state programs in non-state territories.

Even after the implementation of the New Deal, the ratio of federal spending to domestic product stood no higher than 0.065.

Meanwhile, our bishops remain silent. They are strangely paralyzed, unable to rouse themselves to preach loudly to their flock of the evil of the Culture of Death and Theft. Why?
