The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, relays a joke told him by the Pope:
According to a translation from the Argentine journalist Uki Goñi, the pope joked that his compatriots were surprised that he had chosen to call himself Francis I, since, “being Argentine, they thought I would call myself Jesus II.”
Go here to read the rest. PopeWatch assumes that Pope Francis was playing off the fact that Argentinians, in general, are not noted for their humility and decided to make a self-deprecating joke on that fact.
“… Argentinians, in general, are not noted for their humility …”

And our self-proclaimed “humble” pope plays true to type.
*laughs* I think that’s a pretty good joke!
I remember a short lived sitcom featuring a Anglo-Latino marriage in California. The exasperated WASP grandfather asks his son: “Why did you have to name my grandson ‘Jesus’? Every time I cut my face shaving he comes running into the bathroom!”
Actually, that is a pretty good joke.
Whoa, what a howler! That beats his bouncer stories.
