PopeWatch: Encyclical Leaked

VATICAN-POPE-AUDIENCE

From Rorate Caeli:

Someone leaked (or broke the embargo) of the full contents of the Pope’s new encyclical Laudato Si to Italian periodical L’Espresso. Sandro Magister has also made it available.

The whole document, in Italian (pdf file), is available here.

Update: According to Vatican sources, the leaked Espresso text, despite all appearances of a final text, is not the final version… and that the final text is still under embargo until Thursday. It is doubtful that the published text will be much different (it is indeed quite likely it will be nearly identical), so the version above is kept at least for the historical record of events.

Well, now we will have dueling unofficial and official translations by the time the Green Encylical is released on June 18.

I probably could have done better reading this ten years ago. My Italian is rusty.

I did a word search on the Italian word “nucleare” and used Google translator. Every time nuclear energy gets associated with nuclear weapons or environmental destruction.
.
There is NO discrimination between the SAFE use of commercial nuclear energy for electricity and nuclear weapons.
.
I am thoroughly disgusted and absolutely demoralized. When the lights go out and the heating stops in winter time and the air conditioning in summer time, Pope Francis will continue to live in comfort, and will cotninue to make the occasional foray into the darkened, energy deprived slums to wash the feet of some murderous rapist, showing us how humble he is.

Over the weekend, I quoted Pope Francis (approvingly) on some topic. My 11-year-old son responded, “Yeah, but Pope Francis is also the one who told everyone how humble he is.”

No one has helped the poor better than those who have used fossil fuels to better mankind. There is a world of moral difference between wise responsible use of God’s gifts of nature and the irresponsibility of hiding God’s gifts under a rock in order to preserve them just as in the parable of the ten talents.

Yes, our Holy Father is sooooo humble. Rumor has it he will be changing his papal name to Pope Uriah Heap, so he can really be so ‘umble!
