. Then Vice-rector Fr. Paolo Siano of the Franciscans of the Immaculate who was banished to Africa knows that Pope Francis loves him too. Just kidding…it may have been appropo. I knew a grand old priest of the Newark Archdiocese though who was banished to a half industrial area for loaning a parishioner money at no interest when the headquarters was willing to lend at interest to the fellow. They removed him from decades old friends but typically he bore it cheerfully and his old friends stayed in touch.
A fair reading of the article linked to hardly gives evidence of anything that could be called “Papolatry”.
You feel loved by the Pope Chris? You must not be a self-absorbed promethean neopelagian, or any of the assorted names the Pope trots out for those who have the temerity to disagree with him. The idea of this Pope bubbling over with love for all and sundry is ludicrous.
Don: How did you miss Father Rosica’s anointing of the Pope as “the Prince of Peace”?

And then there’s Fr. Rosica’s tweets, also conflating the Pope with the Son of God (scroll down for screencaps):

I guess she could be right. My mother loved me and she always scolded me, so since being scolded is a proof of love….
Ah yes, Elizabeth Scalia’s Aleteia. Just like Elizabeth Scalia’s Patheos, only without the hard-hitting, clear-eyed commentary for which that site is justly renowned.
The fact is that there has been NOT one single saint pope in the last 50 years or so.
But if people want to live in fools paradise…
“By their fruits you shall know them.”

Our friend Mr. Price, contemplating a disciplinary action taken against one priest while the (sexual) offenses of another were allowed to slide, offered that that particular diocese has a clear principle of action: “don’t screw with the money”. I cannot recall if it was the Archdiocese of Bridgeport or the Archdiocese of Boston. (One of these ordinaries has a cardinal’s hat and the other is due for one). Another wag contemplating the rapid deposition of the Bishop of Phoenix offered that the whole episode demonstrated what aggrieved laymen had to do to induce the removal of a bad bishop: jump in front of his speeding car. You do get the impression that our heresiarchs live in a social and psychological bubble wherein a great many of them just do not have the same judgments and visceral reactions that ordinary people have.
A Popeparie of Pope’s.
Flagrant, pungent or senseless..your decrement is necessary.
🙂
Liberals idolize this Pope and hate the last two. I get so very angry when they say I must believe what this Pope says about the environment and about economics because he is the Pope, yet they feel free to defy his predecessors at whim.
.
PS, I do not care if this Pope loves me or not. I do care if Jesus loves me.
Art Deco,
Newark is losing money now due to the Archbishop enlarging his weekend (and then retirement) mansion on Church property by twice which will have an indoor endless pool besides the outdor pool on 18 acres with the diocese paying $19K in property taxes per year. Multiple fireplaces and an elevator and that means servants and maids. Pope Francis wanted him to smell like his flock. Now he has enough land and pool water to have an actual flock if he skips the chlorine. My money goes elsewhere and to individual priests. I’m sure there’s thousands like me now. The Pope put another Bishop with him to watch him on sexual matters for serial permissiveness toward priest offenders but this watchguard Bishop sees nothing wrong with the Palatial digs since it will be his someday. Vatican II said that Bishop’s houses were to be moderate and welcoming to the poor…in this case the poor of Newark. The poor can’t find it because it’s no where’s near Newark….and then there’s the danger that he might have snipers in the trees by the entrance road if I bring a bus full of ghetto youth for a swim.
Paul WP.
Jesus loves you.
Me? Well just look at my grammar.
The Pope’s are decreasing in quality…
Just like my spelling.
Decrement v. Discernment.
I may have to spend extra time in Purgatory because of my poor grammar. Wait. I’ll use some indulgences.
Hang tough Paul. Your a great American.
Sister Noble is a Patheos blogger, and she’s lecturing other people on narcissism? What a hoot.

I seriously doubt the nonfeasance of which Myers is accused re his years in Peoria motivates the Holy See. It’s pretty penny ante compared to what’s been done and not done by other bishops (though Peoria is a diocese which has suffered and suffered from maladministration). As for the coadjutor, he’s due to take office as Archbishop next year. I’d wait to see what he does with his predecessor’s retirement home. If he evicts him and sells it, good.
Art,
He …Myers…was actually in trouble in Newark for one of his offending priests continuing to be involved near youth in violation of a N.J. court agreement…2013 I believe or thereabouts.
Art,
Here on the successor in the view of the Reord’s editor:

Three individuals in the Diocese of Trenton were complicit in keeping this Fr. Fugee in circulation. I do not think I’d blame Myers for that, nor for delegating authority to his vicar general. The whole story is not so much about Myers as about the slatternly quality of diocesan administration, which may be a problem with Myers but I’m afraid more of a problem with the applicant pool.
The op-ed columnist name checks Pope Francis and Cdl. Manning. Neither would qualify as exemplary bishops. I think Bp. Hebda’s being too political with his commentary, but he works for the man for the time being.
What is all this subjectivity about Pope Francis? We should look for Pope Francis to proclaim the teaching of Christ and be a guardian of the historic doctrine of the Catholic Church. He should also be a beacon for holiness and an inspiration for us to help us attain eternal life. Do you believe this is what Pope Francis is all about? Answer: Hardly.
So, where is Cardinal Burke again? Love, love, love!
If the Sin-od can change the explicit teachings of Jesus [thankfully correcting His doctrinal errors], rejoice with active adulterers, create a path to priestess deaconesses, and celebrate anal sex if done with love, can it also make it possible to canonize Bergoglio before he dies? Canon law is silent on self-canonization. Guy McClung
