Knights Are Still Among Us

Hattip to Instapundit.

“Let this sink in for a minute…..Hundreds and hundreds of small boats pulled by countless pickups and SUVs from across the South are headed for Houston. Almost all of them driven by men. They’re using their own property, sacrificing their own time, spending their own money, and risking their own lives for one reason: to help total strangers in desperate need.

Most of them are by themselves. Most are dressed like the redneck duck hunters and bass fisherman they are. Many are veterans. Most are wearing well-used gimme-hats, t-shirts, and jeans; and there’s a preponderance of camo. Most are probably gun owners, and most probably voted for Trump.
These are the people the Left loves to hate, the ones Maddow mocks. The ones Maher and Olbermann just *know* they’re so much better than.

These are The Quiet Ones. They don’t wear masks and tear down statues. They don’t, as a rule, march and demonstrate. And most have probably never been in a Whole Foods.
But they’ll spend the next several days wading in cold, dirty water; dodging gators and water moccasins and fire ants; eating whatever meager rations are available; and sleeping wherever they can in dirty, damp clothes. Their reward is the tears and the hugs and the smiles from the terrified people they help. They’ll deliver one boatload, and then go back for more.

When disaster strikes, it’s what men do. Real men. Heroic men. American men. And then they’ll knock back a few shots, or a few beers with like-minded men they’ve never met before, and talk about fish, or ten-point bucks, or the benefits of hollow-point ammo, or their F-150.
And the next time they hear someone talk about “the patriarchy”, or “male privilege”, they’ll snort, turn off the TV and go to bed.
In the meantime, they’ll likely be up again before dawn. To do it again. Until the helpless are rescued. And the work’s done.
They’re unlikely to be reimbursed. There won’t be medals. They won’t care. They’re heroes. And it’s what they do.”

Note the tee-shirt “Molon Labe.”

Instapundit also commented, “That ‘toxic masculinity’ could be considered ‘hate speech'” among the campus crazies.

Regarding the gentleman in the photo, and all the other gentlemen
like him who went down to the coast to help strangers in need —
in my part of the country, we’d say “they were raised right”. I especially
note that this gentleman with the “Molon Labe” shirt is also holding
the lady’s hand, comforting her. Truly, he was raised right.

I’m wondering how many so-called “social justice warriors” made it
down to Houston to help out? Where are antifa, and the denizens of
various university Gender Studies Departments?

A while back, Camille Paglia recalled an incident where she’d had car trouble and was stranded on the side of the road. She noted that every singe individual who contributed to getting her car off the side of the road, repaired, and ready to roll, was male, and that the purveyors of contemporary feminism were ‘dead to this reality’ Also dead to it are people like Kay Hymowitz, who fancy they mean well toward the male population.

They are indeed knights in shining armor, real men, real heroes. (Most likely Christians too.)

T. Shaw, thanks for pointing out the T-shirt:
Molon Labe was Greek to me. For those like myself who are ignorant of the phrase it is Greek, “Come and take it.” A defiant message from the Spartan king to the Persian one preceding the Battle of Thermopylae.
It’s also the motto of the U.S. Special Operations Command Central.
The rallying cry of the Texas Revolution. It’s on the Gonzales Flag in TX state’s capitol.

Thanks, CAM. I did not know the modern connections, outside the Second Amendment fight.

Truly, “molon labe” was Leonidas proclamation of the defense of Greece/ultimately Western Civilization against Asia. Similarly today, CENTCOM, and all our brave men and women, are defending America from murderous barbarians.

Finally (Thank God!), I prefer Herodotus’ description of Thermopylae to the two cinematic extravaganzas. I hardly remember the Richard Egan Leonidas.

*mentally pictures the reaction if she showed up to help with relief efforts*
*stifles black humor giggles, even if she DIDN’T bring the horde*

These guys can do it– and they, most importantly, DID do it.

I know that all sorts of other folks volunteered to help–I’ve heard of a pregnant mom who did volunteer flight-line work to get supplies in to folks, for example– but this is front line stuff. You NEED someone who can lift 200 pounds, who can man-handle a boat off of a high-center, who can do that quarter of a second “that isn’t humanly possible” shifting– who has the WEIGHT to throw into movement jobs.

Yeah, other stuff is important, too, but– this is a job that needs specific characteristics.
