Happy Black Friday

You may have already seen this on the blogosphere and elsewhere, but it reminds that obsessing about temporal savings can cost you eternal savings…truly penny wise and dollar foolish.

“Turn Thanksgiving into Thanks-Living and have a blessed Christmas season.”

The word for Thanksgiving in Koine or New Testament Greek is ευχαριστια which becomes Eucharistia in Latin. Is that not the ultimate “thanks-living”? (The question is rhetorical). I posted the following in a different venue, but please bear in mind that my day job is nuclear energy, not ancient languages, so obviously I am capable of linguisitic error.

St. Paul writes in 2nd Corinthians 4:15:

Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

In the original Koine Greek, this verse states:

τα γαρ παντα δι υμας ινα η χαρις πλεονασασα δια των πλειονων την ευχαριστιαν περισσευση εις την δοξαν του θεου

Note the word ευχαριστιαν which is the accusative of the nominative ευχαριστια that is transliterated into English as Eucharist and translated as Thanksgiving.

In verse 1 of chapter 4 in his letter to the Church at Philadelphia, St. Ignatius of Antioch (who sat at the feet of St. John the Apostle who wrote the Book of Revelation) says:

Take care, then, to use one Eucharist, so that whatever you do, you do according to God: for there is one Flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one cup in the union of His Blood; one altar, as there is one bishop with the presbytery and my fellow servants, the deacons.

The ultimate Thanksgiving Dinner is the Eucharist – the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Blessed Lord and Savior – offered at Holy Communion for our consumption. Indeed, John 6:53-58 states:

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.”

Indeed Jesus is prefigured as the Bread of Thanksgiving in Leviticus 7:11-14.

And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings which one may offer to the Lord. If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the thank offering unleavened cakes mixed with oil, unleavened wafers spread with oil, and cakes of fine flour well mixed with oil. With the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving he shall bring his offering with cakes of leavened bread. And of such he shall offer one cake from each offering, as an offering to the Lord; it shall belong to the priest who throws the blood of the peace offerings.

Thus does Luke 22:19-20 state:

And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood….”

Thanksgiving Dinner isn’t merely a Turkey with all the fixings, but the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. That is a point which we would all do well to remember.

WHY DO WE ENABLE MADISON AVENUE NY MERCHANTS THAT DESPISE THE CHRISTIAN FAITHS AND CHRISTIANS TO MAKE ZILLIONS OF BUX OVER THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF CHRISTMAS SINCE THOMAS NAST INVENTED SANTA CLAUS,,,,,WHY DO WE ALLOW CROOKED POLITICIANS AT EVERY LEVEL TO CLOAK THEMSELVES IN THE NATIVITY SCENES……christmas belongs in your heart and your family and your churches and not in big box mart, 5th avenue or the magnificent mile, or city hall’s front lawn.
