PopeWatch: Cupich

If PopeWatch had to choose the perfect symbol of this pontificate, Cardinal Cupich would be chosen:

In a television interview with NBC News, Cardinal Cupich commented on a recent 11-page statement by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, former papal nuncio to the United States, that alleges a series of misdeeds by high-ranking Catholic prelates, including Pope Francis himself.

“The pope has a bigger agenda. He’s gotta get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the Church,” Cardinal Cupich said.

“We’re not going to go down a rabbit hole on this,” he added.

Who knew that Cardinal Cupich reads The Babylon Bee for talking points?

Go here to read the rest.  Got it Cardinal.  In your eyes the Pope’s left wing agenda is more important than whether he turned a blind eye to McCarrick pressuring seminarians for sexual favors.  Later in the interview Cupich attempted to play the race card contending that the Pope’s critics don’t like him because he is a Latino.  Where to begin?  The Pope has critics around the globe.  Latino is an American term rarely used in Latin America.  The Pope is 100% Italian in blood, so arguing this is about race is ludicrous.  Finally, only a completely delusional individual like Cupich could possibly contend that the critics of the Pope are motivated by racial or national animus.  The Pope appoints left wing fools to misgovern mother Church would be typical of actual criticism directed towards the Pope rather than the complete bovine droppings that Cupich is attempting to peddle.

A thought: if prelates of little or no faith were wrapped up, heart and soul, in cultural Marxism, then wouldn’t the left’s political weapons of massive immigration and climate change hoaxes be far more important than their flesh games?

The interesting thing to me is what happens with this going forward in terms of demographics. There can’t possible be that many < 50 liberal priests, right? I am almost surprised Francis can still find enough con men to appoint as Bishops as it is. Unless these are all just the same Weakland-era holdovers who haven't yet made their way to Hell.

What is amazing to me is how thin the veneer is on Cupich. His rabid, clerical disdain for the “small number of insurgents” was palatable.

Blaming racism? He must have accidentally picked up the talking points he used when Obama was president.
And somehow “proclaim the Gospel” didn’t make it into the pope’s more important priorities? Good thing I’m sitting down to receive that shock. 😉

Where ever Cupich has gone, he has torched vocations and active priestly membership—you can see this in his past history in Rapid City SD and Spokane, WA, but when he took over from Cardinal George (Cupich was named in Sept. 2014, we now know, by the agency of Cardinal McCarrick, he has successfully halved vocations in the Chicago Arch or worse:

George’s last 4 years’ ordination totals (again, though Cupich was named in Sept 2014, but the 2015 class was under George’s seminary leadership) were:
2012 – 14 ordained; 2013 – 10 ordained; 2014 – 12 ordained; 2015 -14 ordained. An average of 12.5 per year.

Then came Shipwreck, er Cupich: CBS TV Chicago reported (3/21/15, Chicago.cbslocal.com), Cupich then engaged in a “shakeup” esp. of Mundelein seminary—faculty were replaced; seminarians approved under George were encouraged to leave; even the chapel was wreckovated—horribly, you can go look it up online— reflecting Cupich’s preference.

The results? Next year, 2016 – 6 ordained; June, 2017, 6 again and this past June 2018, 8—but he raided other seminaries to achieve 8 ordinands: 4 had started seminary in Mexico, 1 in Columbia and 1 in Poland (You can go look up their history at Chicago Catholic, the Arch website: they all were well into seminary studies at other countries, and Blazing Cupich talked them into coming to Chicago and propping up his diocese. Here we have the “Blaze” effect.

Also 49 major (1st 3 years) seminarians in 2014; 37 major (1st 3 years) in 2016 at Mundelein; 25 major (1st 3 years) in 2018 . I am excluding 4th year theology, because those are reflected in the annual ordination numbers.

It is true that St Mary’s of the Lake Seminary or “Mundelein” as it is know had increased numbers in the last 4 years. In 2018, Mundelein had a total of just over 200 total seminarians but (1) that includes major and pre-collegiate students, and (2) they are from over 40 dioceses, not just Chicago Arch.

As you can see, Cupich’ own diocese does not send him many vocations—his true nature is well known. But, he is McCarrick’s man, after all.

Steve Phoenix.

How sad. The numbers are dismissal. I frequented Marytown and Our Lady of the Lake in the dawn of the new millennium. What a beautiful and Holy grounds, Mundelein and it’s neighbor, Marytown.

I keep trying to tell myself that this horrific attempt by Lucifer to stain the purity of this seminary will end in his humiliation and ultimate defeat. Not him alone, but all who have been deceiving themselves as ( good Shepherds). They too will slither under a rock. A dark cold rock.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.
