Senator Ted Cruz (R.Tx) and his wife were attempting to dine out at a Washington restaurant last night and were attacked by a mob of Leftists. The Democrats, at least most of them, give not a fig about the rules of civility that hold a Democracy together. I sometimes think that I am witnessing in this country something akin to the remark made Sir Edward Grey at the beginning of World War I:
‘The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime’.
We have had this type of incivility in our national life before. It led to a war which cost 750,000 dead. After the Spanish Civil War, a Nationalist leader was asked what caused the War. He thought for a moment and said, “We simply couldn’t stand each other anymore.”
Update: From the group that staged the ambush:
This is a message to Ted Cruz, Bret Kavanaugh, Donald Trump and the rest of the racist, sexist, transphobic, and homophobic right-wing scum: You are not safe. We will find you. We will expose you. We will take from you the peace you have taken from so many others.
Go here to read the rest.
This brings to mind this statement from Orwell:
So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don’t even know that fire is hot.
Every time we see this conduct, at it is increasingly common, I hope that it is an act, that the perpetrators are putting us on to make a point. I am sure there is no small amount of attention seeking among these wretched bullies but I also think that they believe that they are in the right to behave this way.
That concerns me much more than the conduct itself.
One can’t converse or negotiate with dishonest, evil people who act in bad faith as in, “The end justifies the means.”
From T. E. Lawrence, somewhere in Seven Pillars of Wisdom, “Opinions are susceptible to debate. Convictions can only be addressed by shooting.” Or, something to that effect.
Did the maitre d’ call the police and have those worthless okupiers arrested and booked? The restaurant staff aren’t doing a bloody thing to intercede for their customers. You’ll get more of this behavior if it’s not punished and punished with celerity and severity.
The whole sequence of events makes no sense unless these antifa bozos were stalking the Senator and his wife. There should be criminal and civil penalties for that, too.
The dude on video standing there to prevent Cruz from leaving should be charged with unlawful detainment.
Guilty without due process… that’s the thuggery that is displayed above.
POS. That’s right. Excrement screaming. Dog s— pretending to be human beings.
I for one, will be ready for these things to be in my face. Come hell or high water, I will not back away from thugs.
I don’t wish for a civil war. I will not take their crap forever. Michael Moore is a thug. He is an instigator. His like are thugs. Pure and simple thugs.
The Second Amendment? Thank God we have it.
God help us all.
If our Democrat politicians– the ones who are otherwise so
eager to find cameras and microphones– aren’t rushing to
defend their colleague Ted Cruz and denounce these stalkers,
then it’s because they quietly approve of this intimidation.
Silence implies consent. Are Obama, Pelosi, Biden et. al.
speaking out against this thuggery?
These stalkers are the Democrats’ brownshirts.
mob rule; naked communism.
“These stalkers are the Democrats’ brownshirts” -Clinton
Yes. Appropriate example.
No joke. The thought police are patrolling the streets.
Here is something that I wrote this morning since my daughter was groped by a priest and “uncle ted” was my “bishop”. The sovereignty of the Supreme Sovereign Being “lives loudly” in each and every one of us.
That brood of vipers, Spawn of Satan “uncle ted” was my “bishop” in Metuchen. Now, let us see if we can fix it. No, only God can fix it and God does not contradict Himself.
Married priests would not know the difference between virginity and celibacy. Jesus Christ is a virgin. Jesus Christ is our brother. For Jesus to marry any woman would be incestuous. Godparents cannot marry their Godchildren because of the spiritual bond.
The priest is our spiritual father. Should he marry, the priest would be marrying his spiritual child; spiritual incest. Spiritual incest leads to physical incest. Ask any abused child.
Permanent deacons must get their spouse’s permission and set aside their marital privileges. Yes, martial privileges. Any other perspective is ingratitude.
Condescending to a debased form of spiritual relationship is counterproductive; defeating the very principle upon which it is instituted, the salvation of souls.
The sovereign personhood endowed by The Supreme Sovereign Being with the human being’s rational, immortal soul at the beginning of the man’s existence cannot be waived to commit sin or crime by the criminal for himself or for his victim. We, the people are children of the Supreme Sovereign Being; God’s children. And whoever lays a hand on God’s children without God’s permission through the Sacraments of the Catholic Church is bound for hell, for Gehenna, to be a brood of vipers; Satan’s spawn.
The personal sovereignty, the disciple over himself, discarded, the sovereign personhood of the sexual abuser condemns him to roam the earth seeking the ruin of souls.
Look see “uncle ted” a scalded demon worshiper; a seed of Satan.
The sovereign personhood of the rational soul judges man.
The TRUTH, the whole TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH will be known, so help me God.
entitled: spawn of satan
“These stalkers are the Democrats’ brownshirts.”
True Clinton. They are the modern equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan during Reconstruction, the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party in the South.
the discipline over himself
The mob would kill Ted Cruz if he tried to defend his wife and himself. There are the films Con-air and The Ghost. The mobs are the spawn of satan. Watts riots. Rioting is a violation of peaceable assembly of our First Amendment. That no one knew or cared to call police is frightening. Ignorant cowards or conspirators all.
Maybe we ought to teach our Founding Principles and the Ten Commandments in public school and in the public square. Maybe the mob thinks that they are special to their handlers and that they are not next on the list to be mobbed. Not so. As soon as their handlers get what they want the rioters will be eliminated.
Art – this time you and I are in complete agreement. This whole deal needs to be reined in or things are going to get a lot worse.
“Founding Principles and the Ten Commandments in public school and in the public square.”
We do. We were never a nation of freedom, liberty or democracy. We were a nation of racism, genocide and slavery. More and more I hear that repeated. I think many are beginning to believe it.
The worst are full of passionate intensity.
And are getting more intense by the hour.
After the Spanish Civil War, a Nationalist leader was asked what caused the War. He thought for a moment and said, “We simply couldn’t stand each other anymore.”
Does no one read Carl Schmitt anymore?
Schmitt, a Catholic conservative, argues that every realm of human endeavour is structured by an irreducible duality. Morality is concerned with good and evil, aesthetics with the beautiful and the ugly, and economics with the profitable and the unprofitable. In politics, the core distinction is between friend and enemy. That is what makes politics different from everything else.
The political comes into being when groups are placed in a relation of enmity, where each comes to perceive the other as an irreconcilable adversary to be fought and, if possible, defeated. “Every religious, moral, economic, ethical, or other antithesis transforms itself into a political one if it is sufficiently strong to group human beings effectively, according to friends and enemy.” “The political is the most intense and extreme antagonism,” Schmitt wrote. War is the most violent form that politics takes, but, even short of war, politics still requires that you treat your opposition as antagonistic to everything in which you believe.
Of course, he denies the possibility of neutral rules that can mediate between conflicting positions; for Schmitt there is no such neutrality, since any rule – even an ostensibly fair one –represents the victory of one political faction over another and is merely the temporarily stabilised result of past conflicts.
Politicians of all parties would do well to ponderthe words of that great survivor, Talleyrand – “Governing has never been anything other than postponing by a thousand subterfuges the moment when the mob will hang you from the lamp-post [la lantern] and every act of government is nothing but a way of not losing control of the people.”
Sorry – La lanterne. « À la lanterne! » was a popular cry of the Sansculottes.
Being completely devoid of a useful purpose in life, Sunday I began reading a freshman ancient history text. Colleges and universities (now enemy territory and should be carpet bombed) were centers of education and edification. Here is a quote from my “Rejection of Democracy” file.
“Historical experience shows . . . that among the conditions which contribute most to the deterioration of mankind are loss of freedom of the individual and of the local community, excessive government, the growth of cities to the injury of rural life, neglect of cultivation of the nobler mental faculties . . . literature, art, science, patriotism, righteousness, and religion, and lastly the commercialization of the mind and the narrowing of the objects of life to the pursuit of wealth, comfort, and self-gratification.” Ancient History, by Charles A. Robinson, Jr.; page six; The MacMillan Co., NY, 1966.
Now, it’s Lex talionis: Retaliation Rules.
shoua
This Robinson guy sounds like a white, cis-gendered partriarchal oppressor of women and minorities.
You should maybe burn that book before you trigger someone.
You’ve used this silly aphorism before. It doesn’t get better from repetition.
Talleyrand survived because, like the Vicar of Bray, he didn’t believe in anything other than his own survival.
I think that Sen Cruz and similar parties need to hire a security firm to (1) accompany them to all public outings, bar none; and (2) sweep their vehicle for GPS bugs attached to the rear bumper or inside wheel well of his auto(s).
This is all well-organized—too well-organized, too “expected”— and based on our past knowledge of the Soros-Dem front groups, they used P.I. firms and surveillance to set-up their “enemies”.
We simply couldn’t stand each other anymore.”
Well, that’s one way of putting it. The point of similarity in our own time is that one faction was the bearer of socially-sanctioned aggression against the other, and was promising to use instruments of state to confiscate their property and indoctrinate their children. (“It is a matter of public health”, quoth Manuel Azana). Of course, that mentality is all around us. Without a doubt, Barack Obama subscribes to it and has hardly given it a moment’s thought.
Almost true.
During the Directory when he was one of the Ministers ruling France, he listened to a long, no doubt turgid and boring, speech by a French revolutionary who wanted to replace Catholicism with the faddish recent religion of Theophilanthropy. The other Ministers applauded the speech while Talleyrand drily remarked to the orator that Jesus Christ, in order to found His religion, was crucified, died and rose again on the third day. The orator, La Revelliere, should have tried to do as much in founding his religion, Talleyrand concluded.
When asked by a woman what he had done during the Revolution Talleyrand said, “Why Madam, I survived it!” He also remarked that those born after the French Revolution would never realize how sweet life could be.
Talleyrand was a scoundrel, but he was never a Revolutionary fanatic, and he also wasn’t an idiot. On his deathbed, at the prodding of a granddaughter, he was reconciled to the Church, but he negotiated the terms of his reconciliation with the Pope! I hope this black sheep is among the sheep on the Last Day.
I think that Sen Cruz and similar parties need to hire a security firm to (1) accompany them to all public outings, bar none; and (2) sweep their vehicle for GPS bugs attached to the rear bumper or inside wheel well of his auto(s).
That sounds hideously expensive for Sen. Cruz. He and his wife are wealthy, but it’s doubtful they’re in the class of people for whom $200,000 is sofa change.
What needs to happen is that prosecutors and judges start throwing the book at these cretins. Of course, our court system will, for the forseeable future, remain what it is: an ally of anarcho-tyranny.
ANTIFA is the blossoming terrorist/militant wing of the Marxist/socialiists post modernist progressives; the Democratic Party is the political wing. The destructive goals are the same while tactics differ (though watching the Kavanaugh exhibition, just barely).
A cheaper alternative, which as a lawyer, Cruz should know, is to sue the establish for failure to protect their invitees from assault. Successful or not, the ensuing legal costs to such establishments will force them to keep such rabble out.
Would also make for great publicity – play that video at every rally to motivate the troops, and show the left for what they are – a bunch of spoiled, infantile criminals.
the establishment (i.e., the restaurant).
Don
Counting battle deaths, illness and starvation 1 million people disappeared out of a population 30 million during the US Civil War.. During the American Revolution, which was an even more vicious civil war, the proportion is about the same hundred thousand out of 3 million.
The US currently has about 330 million souls. The same proportion would be 11 million dead. Even living under Barrack Obama would be better than that level of disaster.
As this is a family blog I will not describe my opinion of someone who wants a civil war.
I’m no lawyer, but seems to me, the Republicans need a BIG war chest just for lawsuits. Funding for Judge Kavanaugh to sue his accusers, and for Senator Cruz to sue that restaurant, etc. Maybe some fund raisers for such purposes. Hit these outfits and individuals a few times, and cost them some major dollars, and see what happens.
James, you just touched on one reason why things are so bad: why are there no Republican lawyers stepping forward for pro bono work on these cases? Tell us Don McC, just why is that?
The GOP leadership, illustrated by Chuck Grassley’s absurd willingness to bend over backwards to accommodate Ford, contributes to this problem by treating the democrats as honorable opposition. They are anything but that!
Actually there are more than a few public interest conservative law groups. As for the particular cases of Cruz and Kavanaugh, for Cruz being chased out of the restaurant is a god send in his re-election campaign in Texas. My guess is that he was laughing about it by the time he hit the street. Those Red Fascists just made an in kind donation to his campaign worth around ten million dollars. As for Kavanaugh he is not going to sue anyone for defamation. Federal judges simply do not do that, and because he is a public figure he almost certainly would lose unless he could prove actual malice, a hard standard to meet.
Donald R McClarey wrote, “On his deathbed, at the prodding of a granddaughter, he was reconciled to the Church, but he negotiated the terms of his reconciliation with the Pope!”
It was entirely in character that he would want to have his passports in order before the Great Journey.
On learning of Talleyrand’s death, his great antagonist at the Congress of Vienna, Prince Metternich mused, “I wonder what he meant by that?”
I have always treasured that remark MPS. Talleyrand would have loved it as a professional salute from one master diplomat to another.
Apparently the Cruzes returned to the restaurant and ate their meal in peace. A win, win for the Senator from the Lone Star State:

Per Cruz, the restaurant was doing the best they could; unsaid is that he left so that the mob wouldn’t be able to ruin anybody else’s meals.
I think Donald is right about this being rather good for the election here in Texas, and I’d note that Beto popped up to say it was a Really Bad Thing. (Honestly, I wouldn’t vote for Beto, but he’s a fairly normal, sane type Democrat.)
The violent actions of the left are eventually going to trigger a reaction. Social science and physics both have the principle of action-reaction. Difference is in timing and kind. History teaches us that reactions are rarely pleasant or proportional due to pent up emotions. The KKK was a reaction against the loss in the Civil War. We were a century in nullifying that particular demon. I can not predict the exact outcome of the current left-right conflict but am reminded of the ancient Chinese curse – May you live in interesting times.
