Ten Years of TAC: First Post

The American Catholic was born ten years ago on October 6, 2008.  It was a group blog formed by Tito Edwards.  Although the composition of writers has changed over the years, the blog has always remained a group blog.  Here is the first post of the blog by Tito Edwards, welcoming our readers to The American Catholic:

We are twelve Christians who love our Catholic faith looking to engage the world through our writings to better express the teachings of Jesus for the betterment of the common good.  American Catholic is the outward expression of this engagement with the world.

The Second Vatican Council (1) directed the Catholic Church into a positive engagement with the world (2) and we twelve brothers in Christ want to continue this legacy.  We engage by bearing witness to our faith through our postings on this blog, American Catholic, addressing political and cultural issues important to America.  By participating in the public square, we want to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on American politics and culture, in order to form a more perfect union (3) by bringing the message of Christ (4) to the hearts and minds of the American populace.

We hope you join us in this ongoing dialogue on American Catholic by reading our posts, participating in this discussion through your comments, and hopefully having learned more about what it is to be an American living a Christian life as a Catholic.

Ten years is a long time for a blog, most blogs tending to be fairly ephemeral.  The last ten years have been turbulent for the Faith, for our Nation and for our World.  However, God remains God and The American Catholic remains The American Catholic.  With the grace of God, and a fair amount of good humor, we trust The American Catholic will have many more years of fulfilling our mission.  Speaking personally, so long as you are willing to read, I am willing to write.  God bless our contributors, commenters and readers.  The blog would not have been a success without you!

A very happy… birthday…TAC.
Thanks for your dedication and your willingness to reach out. Bernard of Chartres;

“We are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.”

Thank all of you for allowing us lil’ folk to see further. For you are lifting us up onto the shoulders of Giants. God bless all of you.

Happy Birthday TAC! I am glad I found you – I make it a point to drop by for a visit every day. Why? I learn a lot, I often get a chuckle from the humor, and I get uplifted. I regularly share the writings with friends and family. As a retired military guy, I enjoy the fascinating history nuggets and insights. This particular day is special in another way – it is my daughter’s birthday as well. God bless all who share in the TAC journey!

Happy Tenth Anniversary. A place to go in the turbulence for peoples’ perspectives and news – kind of a cyber life.
