PopeWatch: Cardinal Zen

Cardinal Zen calls a spade a spade:

In a blistering New York Times opinion piece, the outspoken former bishop of Hong Kong declared that the agreement between the Vatican and the government of China “is a major step toward the annihilation of the real Church in China.”

Cardinal Joseph Zen asserted this has come about because Pope Francis doesn’t understand China. The pontiff is “naturally optimistic about communism,” and so “he is being encouraged to be optimistic about the Communists in China by cynics around him who know better.”

Pope Francis doesn’t understand the brutality of Chinese Communism

“I know the Church in China, I know the Communists and I know the Holy See. I’m a Chinese from Shanghai. I lived many years in the mainland and many years in Hong Kong,” wrote the Cardinal.

“Pope Francis, an Argentine, doesn’t seem to understand the Communists,” noted Zen.  “He is very pastoral, and he comes from South America, where historically military governments and the rich got together to oppress poor people. And who there would come out to defend the poor? The Communists. Maybe even some Jesuits, and the government would call those Jesuits Communists.”

“Francis may have natural sympathy for Communists because for him, they are the persecuted,” continued Zen.  “He doesn’t know them as the persecutors they become once in power, like the Communists in China.”

A bouncer’s perspective on world affairs becomes a liability when his opinions become applied to the world.

God Bless Cardinal Zen, but there are no more excuses for explaining Francis’ behavior. He is simply a thug. He is no different than the Chicoms. Some of his own priests are in hiding from him or his henchmen. He is bound by nothing but his own will. He sets one set of rules for himself and his henchmen and another set for everyone else. Truly, his hypocrisy knows no bounds. I thank God the Vatican no longer has troops. Francis doesn’t misunderstand totalitarians, he is one.

Advisers?
I’m guessing that he either doesn’t listen to them or has surrounded himself with one’s that are not worth the title of advisor. I suppose in either case the outcome for the underground church in China will be disastrous.
They’re probably praying to God thus; “Forgive him Father, for he knows not what he’s doing.”

My second rosary today will be for that Church.

The CHICOMS are never to be trusted. They have gone back on their promises to the former British Crown Colony Hong Kong. When last there in 1991 many middle class, since UK passports were dear, were applying for entry into Canada, specifically Vancouver. They could see the handwriting on the wall even then.
