More on Our Hapless Bench of Bishops

The disastrous meeting of our bishops is attracting some wider attention:

It’s also no wonder that so many bishops, including the pope, now want to quarantine the issue of sexual abuse of minors from the larger question of sexual infidelity in the priesthood, specifically, violations of celibacy with consenting adults. During the conference, there was some discussion of whether the proposed lay review board should examine claims of sexual offenses against minors as well as adults. Cupich was quick to urge that they be kept separate, saying that it’s a “different discipline,” and that, “In some of the cases with adults involving clerics, it could be consensual sex, anonymous, but also involve adult pornography. There’s a whole different set of circumstances.”

As a matter of policy, or the scope of duties for a lay review board, perhaps Cupich has a point that they should be kept separate. But Cupich and the other progressive-leaning bishops, who wield enormous power because of their closeness to Francis, have shown zero interest in confronting the problem of priests violating their vows of celibacy with consenting adults. Indeed, there is a clear divide between the bishops who think the crisis is rooted in the collapse of traditional morality and those who don’t see the connection at all.

At one point in the conference, Archbishop Emeritus Michael Sheehan, who dismissed dozens of priests for sexual misconduct when he became bishop of Santa Fe in 1993, said the crisis was rooted in three facts: 1) celibacy isn’t always easy, 2) the sexual revolution of the 1960s affected the entire world, including the church, and 3) after Vatican II, some priests and lay people “got wobbly” on faith and morals, gave up on prayer and confession, and some priests fell into the abuse of minors. As he was speaking, a number of other bishops were shaking their heads in disagreement.

Go here to read the rest.  The smarmy Cupich is the perfect representative of this pontificate whose main purpose, apparently, is to turn the Bride of Christ into the Whore of the Left.  Pope Francis is a disaster of a Pope, but the Church has endured bad, even evil, popes before.  No, the truly dismaying aspect of our current situation is that it has revealed how few of our bishops truly give a damn.  Most of them are careerist cowards for whom the Church is a vehicle to a better life than their meager talents would have given them outside the Church.  Pathetic losers is the most charitable phrase to apply to them.  As shepherds they only yawn as the wolves ravage the flocks they have put in charge of them.  The words of Christ come strongly to mind:

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Mathew 23: 13

The sycophants of Pope Francis like to say that he was chosen by the Holy Spirit.  I am beginning to come around to the idea that the Pope was chosen by God, but as a flail and not a blessing.

It’s never too early to put the ice cream away and put on sack cloth with ashes. The season of Advent should be postponed and a long Lenten season should commence.

The following is topping for the ice cream. From Fr. Heilman’s blog;

“Jesus’s law is much higher than pontifical secrets…it’s not Francis’s Church, it’s Jesus Christ’s Church.” James Grein (the man who ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick abused for 18 years.

Somebody tell this to Francis….(as if it would help).

If you are correct it is because we deserve the beating. Who among us is spotless in His sight?
Thank God for reconciliation and Purgatory.

You get the leaders you deserve. After all that’s gone on, the average Catholic still can’t be bothered to care. Personally, I understand the openly heretical bishops like Cupich. Homosexuality is a deadly confusion. What I don’t understand are the clergy who still see Francis as a good thing. I was listening to EWTN and Fr. Larry Richards was on and he said that Francis was selected by the Holy Spirit and he, personally, loved Francis’ “stuff”. Only a blind man fails to see the division Francis has purposely sown.

father of seven. I wonder if some clergyman are struggling with the separation of Chair of Peter and the man who fills that office. (?)

I too have caught Fr. Larry’s bent from radio broadcasts on EWTN programming. There is a possibility that some clergy are happy with Francis and see his reformation as a divinely guided effort, having forgotten that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His Truth shapes us..not conforming to the cultural fashions of today. Fr. William Casey might call priests who have this progressive bent the leaders of the church Mush.

What a time to be alive.

Exactly correct.

To echo Mary de Voe, the minimum starting point of all of this needs to be the defrocking McCarrick.

It is also amazing to me that the bishops do not understand that they are bishops and sovereigns of their own dioceses. If you are a bishop and you wish to do something, you have all the authority in the world to do what needs to be done in your own diocese. The only reason a bishop is stymied by the USCCB is that they are choosing to so be so stymied. Bishops, your authority comes from Christ, not the USCCB, not the Pope. These are your brothers, not your employers. It is not a bond of fraternity to go along with do nothing blathers of ill will just to not “rock the boat”.

I have one more innate human right endowed by “their Creator” that is being addressed only in the Second Amendment. Self-defense needs to be applied to all contracts and all relationships formed in the rational, immortal, human soul. Self-defense stands alone as the foundation of every freedom in any issue of human rights. Self-defense gives witness and testimony to the perfect love of The Supreme Sovereign Being in the covenant of God with man and in the covenant of man with woman and in the treaties for peace among men and in the right to defend truth and Justice. Self-defense is more than survival or survival of the fittest which reduces man to the animal kingdom. Men falls beneath the animal kingdom when man violates “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God.” (Declaration) Men fall into demonic possession with sin.
Self defense is avoiding the near occasion of sin. Avoiding any intimate association through business contracts or profits with unrepentant sodomites as did the cake bakers and florists who refused to deny the truth of Holy Matrimony as being the marital act and covenant with “their Creator” to procreate our constitutional Posterity. Most people are not qualified to act as exorcists. Unrepentant sinners need prayer not support for their errors.
In the meantime, the sovereign personhood of the individual citizen and human being needs to repulse evil on every turn to save his soul. The individual sovereign person needs to exercise his innate human right to self-defense.
Jesus Christ exercised His innate human right to self-defense when He refused to respond to Pontius Pilate’s ignorant question: “What is truth?” Had Pilate asked: “WHO is truth” Jesus Christ would have answered “I AM the truth, the life and the way.”
Now I am going to far astray. My point is that self-defense is normal, natural and legitimate against the unrepentant LGBT, the gay marriage lobby, the transgender movement, that is, the neuter movement, assisted suicide, climate change, overpopulation, even recycling. Self-defense is freedom to make the necessary free will choices in regards to how an individual sovereign person relates to “Their Creator”, religion, God’s world and God’s commandments.
The Lavender Mafia, abortion, the LGBT, same sex marriage and the like, all have no self-defense.
When the sovereign person consents to commit mortal or even venial sin he sets himself outside of his free will and sovereignty and becomes a slave to sin.
Defrock Theodore Mc Carrick. Man matures and becomes his name. Theodore?

That’s just what Bishop of Holley thought. And that’s true irrespective of either the charges against him or his counter-charges.
