WASHINGTON, D.C.—As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continued to prepare to take office as an actual congresswoman that people in the United States apparently voted for of their own volition, her aides forced her to sit down and watch the entire run of Schoolhouse Rock!, a popular education program that teaches youngsters rudimentary ideas on topics ranging from economics to politics.
After Ocasio-Cortez entered her office Tuesday, aides gently guided her to a special room they’d prepared with every season of Schoolhouse Rock! prepped and ready to go.
The woman furrowed her brow and nodded slowly as the cartoon characters talked about basic concepts like the three chambers of government, the process of a bill becoming law, and how money works. “I thought Bill was the president a while ago?” she said confusedly, causing an assistant to pause the show and slowly explain what a congressional bill is.

The facepalm here is that (1) she went to college and (2) to a selective institution and (3) followed an academic program, not a vocational program and (4) in the social science division of the arts and sciences faculty. What’s more, her degree required taking classes from the political science faculty. Of course, the economics and political science faculty at BU will own up to nothing.
Well, who has time to teach the basics when there’s consciousnesses in need of raising.

I think the little people voted her in, simply because they sought to be smarter than a congress person. It’s now a toss up as to who isn’t the smarter, her or her constituents.

Ocasio-cortez represents NY’s 14th Congressional district, almost 50% of the population of which is Hispanic. I would imagine that Hispanics wanted a Hispanic to represent them. No offense intended against Hipanics, but brains were not even a consideration. This is simply a case of cultural prejudice (not racial because Hispanics are as Caucasian as Italians, Greeks and French).
PS, what is called the white population is a little more than 18% of the total population in her district. Black is about 11% and Asian around 16%. I find it fascinating how the supposedly color-blind Dems can make Caucasian Hispanics different than Caucasion Italians or Caucasion Greeks or Caucasion French. The skin color of all four is white. Thankfully unlike the Dems my race is human. They are still racist since the end of the Civil War 153 years ago.
Perhaps, like many newly-elected MPs, she will become the equivalent of a Parliamentary Private Secretary (i.e. unpaid bag-carrier) to a Shadow Minister. This involves contact with the Permanent Under-Secretary (i.e. the Mandarin who actually runs the Department). This will provide a political education in short order.
Obama gave us 57 states. Ocasio-Cortes gives us three chambers of government, the presidency, the Senate and the house. With the education of civics 101 in seventh grade, this can be remedied.
Well, Mary, you would think it would be remedied. But there they are.
