Confederates often said during the War that Nathan Bedford Forrest’s commission as general was signed by Jefferson Davis and the Lord God Almighty.  A semi-literate slave trader with no training as a soldier, Forrest was the outstanding commander of Confederate cavalry during the War.  Union General William Tecumseh Sherman once said of Forrest, after one of his damaging raids against Union supply lines,“That devil Forrest must be hunted down and killed if it costs ten thousand lives and bankrupts the federal treasury.”   After the War Sherman proclaimed that Forrest was the most remarkable man produced by the War.  Untaught genius, brought foward by events, is an awesome thing to witness.

In Trump we have a completely untaught political genius.  Schumer and Pelosi, two lifelong politicians with decades of experience, were left sputtering after going through the Trump buzzsaw.  His comment to Pelosi, saying their negotiations about the Wall should go on before the cameras in the interests of transparency was brilliant.  As faithful readers of this blog know, I have quite a few problems with Trump, but when it comes to political acumen, his often buffoonish public persona conceals a politician who can throw away the rule book and prevail against the odds.  He seems to get better when his back is against the wall.  Pass the popcorn as we watch the next two years unfold.

  1. Schumer, Pelosi… what’s distressing about our political order is that so many advance within it having done little else in their work life apart from jonesing for public office or occupying private sector positions derived from having held public office. That’s true of the entire congressional leadership with the qualified exception of John Cornyn. That’s true of at least 3 of the 7 consequential candidates for president in 2016 and 2 of the 5 notable candidates in 2012.

  2. Not sure what people who actually saw it (I didn’t) took away from the meeting. What the media took away was that Trump owns any government shutdown that happens.

  3. “What the media took away was that Trump owns any government shutdown that happens.”

Trump will be running against the media too. A sample of a Trump stump speech in 2020:

What really infuriates the media is how every thing they throw at Trump bounces off him. His supporters realize that when it comes to Trump they are getting as much truth out of our media as when Pravda and Izvestia were reporting on Reagan. Good accurate reporting could be damaging to Trump, but good honest reporting is as rare today about Trump as sobriety was for Ted Kennedy.

  4. “Git there fustest with the mostest.” It ain’t that hard.

Trump’s “super power” is to NOT fold like a cheap camera in front of the liberal BS (N.B. it is all BS). And, that drives them nuts.

Plus, President Donald J. Trump knows (and throws it in the faces of the liberal idiots [redundant]) that [see June 30, 2018 Harris/Harvard poll] 76% of Americans want a secure border; 70% want immigration laws enforced; 64% want illegals immediately sent back; 55% oppose catch/release; and 53% want illegals prosecuted. And, he knows that 16,000 or so lifer politicians and deep state oligarchical elitists and the lying media do not constitute the majority: See November 2016.

One other “thing.” The RINO/corporatist/chamber of commerce/country club/Never Trumper [so-called][ GOP are as rabidly pro open borders as are the Dems/Libs. Another commonality: they both fear and loathe normal Americans. They should.

  5. C Matt, Pravda means “Truth.” The Pravda chief under Lenin was asked what does “Pravda” mean?” His answer fits to a tee the lying media, “The truth is that which advances the revolution.” Plus, the media need to feverishly determine what has to be covered-up/censored because it makes Dems/libs look bad.
