Campaign Serfs Have to Have Workers’ Comp? Who Knew?

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the gift that keeps on giving:

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 congressional campaign was fined by the state of New York for failing to provide the proper workers’ compensation coverage to campaign staffers.

“The employer did not have the required workers’ compensation coverage from March 31, 2018 to April 30, 2018,” Melissa Stewart, the spokeswoman for New York’s Workers Compensation Board, told The New York Daily News. “[It] was issued a final penalty of $1,500, which was paid.”

“This coverage is vital to ensuring workers are protected for on-the-job injuries,” Stewart continued.

The self-proclaimed Democratic socialist has been portraying herself as a champion for workers’ rights. During her campaign, she advocated for a $15-an-hour minimum wage and a Federal Jobs Guarantee because according to her website, “anyone who is willing and able to work shouldn’t struggle to find employment.”

Go here to read the rest.  I feel for her, I really do.  It is hard keeping track of this type of thing, not to mention paying for it, something I have been doing in the law mines for over a third of a century.  I guess it would be even tougher for someone who apparently expects the government to brush her hair, put her eyes back in their sockets and make sure her shoes don’t have holes in them.  Que lastima!  Perhaps she should have stuck with something she manifestly has talent for:

IIRC, her capsule biographies claim she founded a business at one point. Pretty amusing. See this from a news story about the campaign manager Occasional-Cortex hired:

“For her campaign manager, she selected Virginia Ramos Rios, a 46-year-old who has a background in insurance marketing and energy healing. She’s studied past life regression therapy and periodically performs chakra healing. But after a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the frustrations of navigating health insurance, she turned to politics.”

Recall Erma Bombeck’s advice: “Ya can’t make it better, ya laugh at it”.
