Like John C Wright pointed out, the issue wasn’t whether Solo was good or bad (though I will be watching it riffed very soon), but that the Last Jedi was so bad and the audience can’t exactly go back in time and “unwatch” the film. So they end up skipping the next film to make their displeasure known.
Also I have to bring up SFDebris’ VERY good video series on the making of SW. Don as a historian might especially enjoy them.
Making Star Wars.
