Math is Tough

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

WASHINGTON, D.C.—During a recent media appearance, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came prepared to defend her Green New Deal and far-left economic policies.

She even stopped at CVS on the way and picked up a calculator so she could prove definitively that her policies add up.

However, her point appeared to be derailed partway through her opening statement as the calculator showed that her policies make no mathematic sense. Luckily, Ocasio-Cortez had a backup strategy: to inform the calculator that she is in charge and that it is just “shouting from the cheap seats.”

“Look, what you need to understand here is that I’m in charge,” she said after the calculator refused to correctly crunch the numbers to provide funding for her hundred-trillion-dollar policies. “I’m the boss. You’re just the laws of mathematics. So until you can propose something better, you’re in the cheap seats.”

Go here to read the rest.  When the times turn crazy, satirists have a hard time keeping up. The following is not from The Babylon Bee:

The US military budget is such a bloated monstrosity that it contains accounting errors that could finance two-thirds of the cost of a government-run single-payer health insurance system. All Americans could visit an unlimited array of doctors at no out of pocket cost. At least that’s a notion spreading on left-wing Twitter and endorsed and amplified by newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of Democrats’ biggest 2018 sensations and an undeniable master at the fine art of staying in the public eye.

Unfortunately, it’s not true. The idea spread like a game of telephone from a Nation article to the US Congress while losing a crucial point of detail: The Pentagon’s accounting errors are genuinely enormous, but they’re also just accounting errors — they don’t represent actual money that can be spent on something else.

“It is in the interest of tyrants to reduce people to ignorance and vice.” Samuel Adams.

Likely Occasional Cortex is too ignorant and mal-educated to understand that all this left-wing, lunatic crap is solely meant to seize control, money, and power.

The above is one of Twain’s comic remarks that is TRUTH. The flip-side, electing and giving these morons and giving ever-increasing powers says more about the imbecilic electorate than the puissant pols, and it illustrates the foul efficacy of 100 years of leftist lunatic control over public education.

Reminds me of debate back in high school. It didn’t matter what the resolution for the year was, but the team arguing to affirm the resolution always, always paid for whatever plan they’d concocted by “cutting unnecessary defense spending like the B-1 bomber.”

The math does not matter, for the intelligence to understand the math is still required. I recall when Obama was elected and a woman interviewed now thought that her car payments were going to be paid for by government, and her house etc…. When asked where the money was going to come from she said from Obama himself because he had a stash somewhere. My jaw hurt for a week from hitting the floor.

A tactic of the left has always been to put the panic foot forward when having to cut costs. Whenever a budget proposal is not as much as the left wants or a cut from a previous budget they always tell the gullible that the schools, police and fire departments will suffer for the cuts that have to be made because of the lack of monies proposed by conservatives.

So the math does not matter. Never did and never will. It’s the intelligence or lack thereof that matters.

AOC reminds me of a college educated(?) woman who remarked to me, ” well, um, and… if we had a different math, we’d have a different science….”
I told her, no, we do have different number systems: binary, hexadecimal, decimal,, and one truth, one science through observations.
For some strange reason I was never able to convince her otherwise, all while she typed on her (binary) computer. Then there was that baptist engineer who loved his gasoline powered engines, but refused to believe in fossils, as in fossil fuels..
Oh well.
It’s good to be an engineer, and great to be catholic.
