It would be ironic if our next civil war were to be fought because we failed to learn the lesson of the Great Compromise of the last Civil War that the late Shelby Foote spoke of a quarter century ago: that a people who look at their past and derive only hatred from it, have no future.
I think the same thing could be said about the battle within the Catholic Church between the “North” of Pope Francis, Liberal Catholics plus the majority of the hierarchy, versus the “South” of Conservative and Traditional Catholics.
Eventually, the “South” will win this war.
