White Palm Sunday

No outdoor procession at Saint Pat’s in Dwight, Illinois as Mother Nature was feeling prankish today:

Reduced visibility, heavy wet snow, and even some slushy road accumulations… Heavy wet snow will continue this morning, especially along and northwest of Interstate 55. Snow could fall heavily at times resulting in reduced visibility to one quarter to one half mile. Some isolated thundersnow has also been reported this morning. Roads and sidewalks are relatively warm, but with snow rates of one inch per hour, expect even some slushy accumulations up to one inch and slippery conditions on roadways, especially less traveled ones. Be prepared for slippery conditions. Some areas will see 2 to 4 inches of accumulation on grass and elevated surfaces.

Ah well, doubtless Easter will be more pleasant, although I do recall snow on Easter 1982 which fell on April 11.  I have always imagined that God has a superb sense of humor, and the tricks that Illinois weather can pull substantiates that claim.  A grand Palm Sunday to all the readers of TAC.

We got a light dusting of wet snow in Springfield as well. The greatest one-day snowfall in Springfield history (17 inches) also occurred on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013.
