A movement popular on the Left is to pay the bail of people accused of crime. They do this without knowing a thing about the people they are helping put back on the streets. Ideology and lack of knowledge can produce dire results:
St. Louis, MO – Just hours after a nonprofit group posted bail for a man accused of assaulting his wife, the suspect went to the woman’s home and brutally murdered her, according to prosecutors.
Samuel Lee Scott, 54, was arrested for domestic abuse on April 5, after he allegedly beat 54-year-old Marcia Johnson, injuring her cheekbone and ear, the Associated Press reported.
Scott also allegedly told Johnson that the “might as well finished what [he] started since [she] was going to contact the police,” the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office wrote in a probable cause statement.
On April 9, the court granted Johnson’s request for an order of protection, and he was notified that he was prohibited from going to her residence or within 300 feet of her, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Later the same day, the St. Louis Bail Project posted Scott’s $5,000 bail.
“The Bail Project is an unprecedented effort to combat mass incarceration at the front end of the system,” according to the group’s website. “We pay bail for people in need, reuniting families and restoring the presumption of innocence.”
The Bail Project is comprised of “passionate advocates” known as “Bail Disruptors and Client Advocates…many of whom have experienced the bail system firsthand,” according to the website.
“We believe that paying bail for someone in need is an act of resistance against a system that criminalizes race and poverty and an act of solidarity with local communities and movements for decarceration,” the page read. “Bail is not necessary to ensure people return to court. We won’t stop until meaningful change is achieved and the presumption of innocence is no longer for sale.”
Within hours after The Bail Project enabled Scott’s release, he made his way over to Johnson’s home, arriving there at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Associated Press reported.
He proceeded to violently assault her, then left her bloodied body lying inside her home, prosecutors said.
A friend found Johnson at approximately 11 p.m., and rushed her to a hospital.
“[She] was unconscious, had a broken eye socket, several broken ribs, and was bruised from head to toe,” according to court documents.
A family member said that the attack also left Johnson with “brain damage,” KTVI reported.
The battered woman died of the blunt force trauma injuries five days later.
Police said that Scott later confessed that he had struck her, according to the Associated Press.
Go here to read the rest. Before bail is set a Court hears from both the prosecution and the defense. Often times a Defendant is released on his own recognizance with no bond. A money bond means that the Court views the Defendant as a potential flight risk and/or potentially dangerous. Uninformed politicized idiots, meddling in a system they clearly do not understand, is an invitation for the type of disaster that occurred above.
Instapundit: “Do-Gooders Do Damage.”
But, it’s all good. He will vote Democrat in November.
Proof America needs more not less mass incarceration.
More do-gooders doing damage. Thousands of illegal invaders are victimizing ordinary Americans, and the Dems fight with Trump over it.
I used to think that Bernie Sanders was a quirky old guy socialist. Now I think he’s a cruel man without a soul. He cares not for the parents of the little boy and others who were killed or savagely wounded by the bomb murderer of the Boston Marathon.
He doesn’t really care about the poor, he cares about the power and house #3 on lake front property. I now seriously picture him as a true communist, laughing with Stalin: “well you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.”
Johnson’s family ought to file a multi-million dollar wrongful death suit against the SLBP.
Sanders is your stereotypical humanitarian: loves humanity in the abstract, doesn’t give a damn about real people trying to live real lives in the real world. It’s what he has that in common with the rest of the Democratic presidential candidate clown car posse.
Would I be too cynical in suspecting that something more sinister is at play than just ignorance with these leftist groups?
This gent was charged with domestic violence. Eh, who cares? Go free, oppressed fellow!
The progressive mindset is such a gift to women.
What are they calling it- disruptive. Disruptive politics, distruptive technology, distruptive business models. Disruptive justice sounds utterly frightening. A by-product of boredem and a Godless society looking to fill that empty hole only God can fill.
Hilary Gump, progressive; “Life is like a box of nitroglycerin. You never know what your getting until it blows up in your face.”
After all. “Stupid is what stupid does.” Too bad it cost the life of a wiman.
….reproductive rights and war on women.
Two more bottles of explosives that the progressive mentality have brewed up to hide the truth. When will it end?
How many more babies will suffer what Scotty suffered at the hands of “do-gooders?”
( wiman is what happens without first having a cup of coffee. I beg your pardon. )
“Would I be too cynical in suspecting that something more sinister is at play than just ignorance with these leftist groups?”
Nah you would be right on the money. We make the mistake of believing that the Left has to be stupid and ignorant to be doing things like this and going off on the deep end, but they aren’t. All this is calculated by the leaders of the Left to create chaos. Once chaos is firmly established in society by the left then ‘extreme’ measures can be undertaken by the government for the safety of the nation: Martial Law. What we see is not at all stupidity or ignorance but an agenda of planned chaos.
A formulation I picked up from Jordan Peterson: it’s ideology substituting for knowledge.
And that’s what makes it even more dangerous than simple ignorance.
“Once chaos is firmly established in society by the left then ‘extreme’ measures can be undertaken by the government for the safety of the nation:”
A similar strategy was employed by the Spanish left in the thirties of the last century. They unleashed a reaction that left most of them dead or in exile. The Left never learns the lesson that violence is ever a game that two can play.
Situational irony is a staple of literature, especially detective fiction. That aside, I suspect you have two phenomena at work here:
1. The notion, common among the left, that they are superior people and see things ordinary people do not. (The affection for bad art and bad architecture seems derived from this). Joe Blow off the sidewalks of Joplin doesn’t admire criminals and thinks that convicted criminals belong behind bars and that the smart money says many of ‘the accused’ do as well. That’s banal. The superior people believe the ‘real’ criminals a work in law enforcement and are succored by Joe Blow. Other superior people just despise cops for about the same reason Al Gore despises soldiers.
2. In and among this crew you will find some women attracted to rough trade.
Art-
like Gilbert and Sullivan’s song about “if you’re anxious for to shine”?
‘and everyone will say, as you walk your generous way
if this young man is generous to those only a moron would be
why what a very high minded young man this generous young man must be’…..

The St. Louis Bail Project aided and abbetted this homicide. The St. Louis Bail Project ought to be held liable and prohibited from setting other monsters free. Sue the St. Louis Bail Project for contributing to the woman death.
Why did anyone human ever believe that the killer would obey a court order? The killer loved to kill. The wife batterer will kill his wife with every blow if he could. Hate in the heart of every killer
In Scotland, the grounds for refusing bail are that, in the opinion of a police officer, the accused is likely
1) Abscond or fail to appear
2) Commit further offences whilst on bail
3) Interfere with witnesses or otherwise obstruct the course of justice.
A person charged with a violent or sexual offence or an offence of drug-trafficking, with a previous conviction on indictment for a similar offence is not bailable, unless the Lord Advocate consents or the High Court find exceptional circumstances justifying bail.
