PopeWatch: Heresy

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Wow.

Prominent clergymen and scholars including Fr. Aidan Nichols, one of the best-known theologians in the English-speaking world, have issued an open letter accusing Pope Francis of committing heresy. They ask the bishops of the Catholic Church, to whom the open letter is addressed, to “take the steps necessary to deal with the grave situation” of a pope committing this crime.

The authors base their charge of heresy on the manifold manifestations of Pope Francis’ embrace of positions contrary to the faith and his dubious support of prelates who in their lives have shown themselves to have a clear disrespect for the Church’s faith and morals.

“We take this measure as a last resort to respond to the accumulating harm caused by Pope Francis’s words and actions over several years, which have given rise to one of the worst crises in the history of the Catholic Church,” the authors state. The open letter is available in Dutch, Italian, German, French, and Spanish.

“I will not answer this; I am pope.”
But that’s exactly the problem. 2000 years of Guidance cannot be changed and it’s a horror for you to think that you can, or should. And need not give explanations – that’s your Job!

They’ll be a snide cowardly remark in a homily in a few days, that banks on the blind to follow. Oh how I wish this time…
pray the rosary, go to mass daily, Eucharistic adoration, it’s no accident we’re here at this time.

Ambiguity never makes a strong foundation yet PF has built his short pontificate on the quick sand of relativism. Yes. Prayers at the end of the Holy Rosary should be for his conversion…not his intentions. Missing out on the plenary indulgences is worth helping the soul of Pope Francis. It’s time the laity recognizes the difference between the Chair of Peter and the one who occupies that chair.

For his conversion. For Holy Catholic Church. Let us pray.

“Salus animarum prima lex.”
-within the open letter the explanation above sums it up. Souls Matter!

Certainly, this pope holds views that are heterodox and calling his actions scandalous would be an understatement. But i don’t see any of this rising to the level of formal heresy, canonically speaking.

And besides, what canonical consequences can a sitting pope suffer, anyway?

I just pray God deposes and anathematizes this Marxist Peronist Caudillo occupying the See of St. Peter. We can argue and quibble all day long: well is it really formal heresy or not? It doesn’t matter. The freaking guy is out of control – his mouth spewing out nonsense all day long, appointing heterodox sex perverts into positions of authority, etc. He’s a complete disaster for the Church, and perhaps God’s just punishment on us for our own complacency and heterodoxy.
