Efforts to turn a vigil for hero Kendrick Castillo into a gun control rally met with pushback from students:

The tone changed during the second vigil at Highlands Ranch High School, as STEM School Highlands Ranch students burst into a spontaneous demonstration, protesting politics and the media.

The protest, in the form of a walkout with chants, happened after Sen. Michael Bennet, a Democratic presidential hopeful, and Congressman Jason Crow, spoke to the crowd.

Students, several hundred strong, chanted “Mental health” and complained about the media in derogatory terms.

The protest derailed the organized vigil, although students eventually went back into the gym and spoke as part of an open-microphone gathering, where they continued to vent. The event ended at about 9 p.m.

Earlier, another vigil was held in the wake of Tuesday’s shooting — the fourth school shooting in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre 20 years ago.

Go here to read the rest.  Bravo.  Something is beginning to rise in this nation.  The Left has overplayed its hand.  Its constant efforts to politicize everything, including the death of a young hero, is increasingly disgusting decent people.  Keep your eye on this.

  1. The Left has overplayed their hand since Obama took office & got drunk with power. They have doubled-down on their arrogance since Trump became president. Most of us here are not Trump fans, but we did vote for him because Clinton was diabolically worse in many ways.

Watch the Left start riots if & when Trump wins a second term, the backlash to their childish behavior will make them wish they ran to Canada instead of destroy property in “protest”.

  2. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I accept my fallibility, but it does seem the recent has developed with people confronting the armed aggressor. It happened here, at the synagogue in Philly and in San Diego. Heroes have confronted the killers and helped limit the human loss. Compare it to past tragedies when all the victims fled and were cornered and mowed down or attempted to hide. If this continues perhaps the crazies will become less motivated to become famous.

You’re not wrong, in that you’re accurately responding to what the news has said.

There have been folks fighting back before, but the reporting on that has gone through the roof– the Oregon guy who fought back, on his daughter’s birthday, and lived— he was almost lost in the noise.

The lady who died, and the guy who folks think angels backed in screaming he was going to kill the attacker, the college kid who gave himself to stop the attack, the high school kid who gave his life AND STOPPED THE BLANKERS–

    Folks are fighting back.

    And it’s working.

    AND IT IS BEING RECOGNIZED.

Fighting back has ALWAYS resulted in a lower body count; it’s just hitting the news, now.

  4. Good for the students who walked out. Maybe (and that’s a big maybe) these gun control advocates will learn a lesson

  5. The names of both Riley Howell and Kendrick Castillo ought to be memorialized. And those of their murderers forgotten until the end of time.

  6. Selfless bravery in others is always contagious and spurs others to do the same. God bless them bother.

  7. The media-leftist-politicians had “their” narrative ready and the students said shame on you in trying to use our grief and walked out.

    Quiet Awesome.

Absolutely right Foxfier. Throughout history, and it is a lesson we never seem to learn for long, evil flourishes until a few courageous people, often at the cost of their lives, stand up to it. Shooters are increasingly going to be encountering not cowering victims, but fighters who will rush them, come what may.

  9. Amen to Don & Foxfier.
