The Queen

Remarkable speech considering that she is 93.  My sainted mother was Republican Irish but she always loved the Queen.  I can never forget that Queen Elizabeth, breaking with royal protocol, ordered this at Buckingham Palace after 9-11:

Greatest honor I can offer:
My grandmother HATED the English.

She liked the Queen.

Haha @ foxfire. Good lady the Queen- amazing legacy she’ll leave one day. But, the Commonwealth nations might be screaming for a Republic when Charles takes over one day.

I’ve seen videos of her when she was young and making official visits. She would stop and talk with people one on one, I got the impression she was genuinely interested in the person she was talking with.

She has always struck me as a down to earth person with a fair amount of curiosity about the people she meets. A healthy lack of modern neuroticism.

And she married a capable can-do fellow who emerged un-injured from a very suboptimal family situation. OTOH, her sister’s life was a story of transgression driven by chronic boredom (which included marrying a thoroughgoing roue), followed by long years of decay as the bills for her youth came due. Three of the Queen’s four children have suffered major pratfalls in a matrix wherein it was important that they not embarrass themselves; OTOH, her sister’s children have kept their noses clean and their name out of the papers.

The treatment of Charles and the York sisters by the newspapers and combox republicans reminds you that high school never ends for some people (media people especially).

“Treatment of Charles”. Charles is an idiot like his father. I think you know this already. You are what we call a s&$@ stirrer. Fill in the blanks.

(Sigh) Dad used to complain that Mom’s Southern relatives never stopped refighting the Civil War. Seems some other Americans still think the Revolution (or the Easter Rebellion) is on-going.

Charles has been notorious for 50 or 60 years for being unlike his father. And neither man is an idiot.

Charles extra marital affair is well documented and he badgered on until he was allowed to marry his fellow adultering divorcee wife. Charles treats himself and his cows with homeopathy. Charles talks to his plants “I happily talk to the plants and trees, and listen to them. I think it’s absolutely crucial.” Now he just instructs them. Charles peddles climate “science”, he even tried to peddle it to your President. He interfers in politics and hides his money in shonky offshore environmental investments. Charles shook hands with Mugabe at St PJP2 funeral. Charles calls his Asians pals “sooty”. Philips treatment of females on official visits are well documented- wandering hands and a habit of putting his foot in his mouth when he speaks. His affairs have been kept under wrap- probably to not embarrass his wife. He can’t drive either- he recently injured two women with a baby in the car when he t-boned his car, but was behind the wheel the next day with a fresh new Range Rover. Both men are idiots.

IOW, they subsist in your imagination.

He can’t drive either-

I rear-ended someone in 1992. Ergo, I can’t drive. GEICO must be suckers to insure me.

Charles extra marital affair is well documented and he badgered on until he was allowed to marry his fellow adultering divorcee wife.

I don’t care for his domestic arrangements, but let’s be fair in our descriptions. Between 1976 and her death, his wife had periods of estrangement from her mother, her stepmother, her sister Jane, her brother-in-law Mr. Fellowes, and, finally, her brother, who told her in 1996 that she wasn’t welcome in the family home. She sh!tcanned the first of the nannies hired to look after her sons and publicly accused the other of having an affair with the Prince (as she couldn’t can the woman because she worked for her estranged husband; both nannies were on the guest list at Wm.’s wedding, btw). She feuded with the Princess occupying the adjacent segment of Kensington Palace. She also had at least three extramarital affairs between 1984 and her death, the last with the useless son of a very erratic department store magnate who has been peddling conspiracy blather for 20-odd years. The Queen’s sister and three of her four children married people who treated them badly or generated episodic scandals.

Charles calls his Asians pals “sooty”. P

So what?

Charles shook hands with Mugabe at St PJP2 funeral.

Without a doubt, along with several-dozen other foreign dignitaries. If he hadn’t, you’d have accused him of making a scene. John Paul once granted an audience to Yasir Arafat.

He interfers in politics

Actually, what he did was to send handwritten notes to cabinet ministers on topics of interest to him, to which they did not wish to be bothered to reply.

Charles peddles climate “science”,

Again, so what? The academic biologist in my family adheres to this stuff. Everyone’s got an opinion.

Charles talks to his plants “I happily talk to the plants and trees, and listen to them. I think it’s absolutely crucial.”

I bet he talks to his house pets, too. It’s an amusing quirk.

Charles treats himself and his cows with homeopathy.

What he did was set up a foundation to support research into homeopathy, which bothered academics jonesing for grant money for their own projects. Guess what: there are a lot of asswipes with faculty appointments.

Philips treatment of females on official visits are well documented-

Like everything else you’ve said.

Grow up woman.

You know what I like about the Prince of Wales. For all his myriad manifest faults and obvious unworthiness to be a head of state at least nobody voted for him.

It’s almost enough to make one a monarchist.

Compared to who? The political hack who is President of Ireland or perhaps the law professor / pundit who is President of Portugal or the uber-connected lapsed civil servant who is President of Germany?

That was my point Art. You can lump him in with the rest, but at least nobody voted for him. The Irish, Portuguese and Germans can’t make the same claim.

Art Deco, if you want others to listen, try engaging. Rather than picking a fight and resorting to personal attacks. It’s useless having a respectful debate with you.

Sorry Donald. I’ll leave it there.

My ‘picking a fight’ consisted of this bland remark. “The treatment of Charles and the York sisters by the newspapers and combox republicans reminds you that high school never ends for some people (media people especially).”

You took it from there, sister, because that’s how you roll.

Art Deco, if you want others to listen, try engaging.

I answered just about every contention you made, point by point. And you found the critique intolerable. Which is your problem, not mine.
