National Donut Day

Even a bad donut is better than no donut at all.

  1. I’m ecstatic. There are two national donut days, the first June Friday and November 5. What’s not to like?

For some of us, every day is donut day.

  2. The local Walmart Neighborhood Supermarket (WNS) were handing out free donuts. I’m not sure if this is a nationwide promotion, but it wouldn’t hurt to visit your nearest WNS if you really want a donut.

    I had four! 😀

  3. An office I do business with offered me some from their stash yesterday, all covered with sprinkles and frosting. Stick to fried cakes and sour cream doughnuts, a couple of times a year, and spend your carbs ration on a crescent roll with sausage.

  4. Jeanne Bergeron,
    Thank you for that lead.
Ricky Meches Donuts or Meches Donut King in Lafayette?
What do you recommend as their best tasting donuts? beignets?
I see that one of the shops has kolaches also.
My youngest son travels between Lafayette and Midlands/Odessa.
    Thanks,

  5. Jeanne Bergeron,

Is there a Meches near Deridder? Our son lives there. We get down there maybe twice a year.

  6. Cake or Raised:
A definite all time favorite for raised cruller twists honey dipped, powdered, gran. sugared, and sometimes cinnamon is Donut Dip on Rt. 5 in W. Springfield – and so many other varieties. It’s even across the road from a Dominican Monastery.

Atkins Farms store bakery in Amherst, MA is my choice for runner up.

  7. The beniets. I don’t think there is one in Deridder. That town is north of Lake Charles and a little far from the original one.. Your best bet is to come to Lafayette or Carencro wich is the town directly north of Lafayette

  8. Thank you, Jeanne! I passed it on to my son and nephew.. Most likely we’ll be down there in Nov for our anniversary if our son is in town and will go to Merche’s. Every once in awhile I’ll make calas from scratch. Nothing like fresh calas or beignets with coffee and chicory for breakfast or anytime.
