The Kids Will Pick Up The Tab

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 27:  37-39

Yep, the National Debt is a huge problem and no one really seems to care.  The Democrats are hell bent on doubling the National Debt in the first term of any future president they elect.  The Republicans pay lip service to the problem, and that is their sole contribution to a solution.  The voters clearly do not care, as long as they receive their largess from the Feds.  Eventually this will all end in debt repudiation, or payment in radically inflated currency, both of which would make the economic collapse of The Great Depression look like a mild recession.  Our Solons, and we who elected them, are “addressing” this problem with the Death or Florida solution.  By the time the bill falls due we will be dead or retired in Florida.  Next time some idiot politician talks about a policy he is pushing “for the kids” ,  recall this, because it indicates how much we as a society truly care about the generations that come after us.

Thank you for this post. We are simply pushing this debt onto our children and it is morally reprehensible. There are some Republicans who would be part of a solution today, but there are no Democrats. The media is simply the marketing arm of the Democratic party, so nothing will happen until the market/reality forces a change in policy.

This is a Capitol Hill problem. The state governments balance their books for the most part.

We had massive debt accumulation during the 2d World War and the ratio of federal debt to domestic product stood at 1.19 at its end. The federal government ran surpluses in 1947 and 1948. The political class of the time was capable of accomplishing something and had a modicum of personal responsibility and patriotism. The President of the time wasn’t some Solon down from the Mountain, but the issue of the Prendergast machine in Kansas City.
