Nike, Betsy Ross and China

Further proof, if any were needed, that huge corporations like Nike are tools of the Left domestically, and toadies of tyrants abroad:

Just don’t do it.

That was the message ex-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick delivered to Nike over the planned release of a USA-themed sneaker, which featured a Betsy Ross flag on the heel, according to a report.

Nike nixed the released of the Air Max 1 USA after having already sent the sneakers to retailers because the protesting quarterback said he felt the use of the Betsy Ross flag was offensive and carried slavery connotations, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the Journal’s report stated: “After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery.”

n response, a Nike spokeswoman told the Journal: “Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured the old version of the American flag.”

The sneaker originally was slated to be released on Monday, and posts hyping its release said it would cost $140.

Go here to read the rest.  Let’s unpack this shall we?  Colin Kaepernick is offended by a small flag on the back of a pair of shoes, instead of the fact that Nike is attempting to have often poor black families shell out one hundred and forty George Washingtons for a pair of sneakers.  Nike is so terrified of this rabble rouser they have made a very rich man, that they reverse course and take what is probably a substantial loss.  Personally I find making money off patriotism offensive, so the fact that this odious marketing technique of Nike came a cropper I find amusing.  The raw ignorance and bile of Kaeprnick’s hatred of the flag under which many American blacks during the Revolution fought and died is a tribute to the strong streak of Know-Nothingism of the contemporary Left in this country, and their hatred of all that is foreign to their Mayfly grasp of History.

As for being a toady for tryrants abroad, Nike has recently abased itself before the gangsters running China:

Nike has stopped selling some products in China after a fashion designer’s support for protests in Hong Kong sparked a social media backlash.

The US retail giant said in a statement Thursday that it had decided to remove some of its goods “based on feedback from Chinese consumers.”
“We have withdrawn from China a small number of products that were designed by a collaborator,” a Nike (NKE) spokesperson told CNN Business.
The company did not respond when asked to provide more details.
The Financial Times reported Wednesday that Nike had pulled a line of sneakers made in partnership with Japanese streetwear label Undercover, which is led by designer Jun Takahashi.
Chinese retailer YY.com said in a statement on its official social media account that it would not stock Undercover x Nike Daybreak shoes after “an urgent notice issued by the Nike brand.”
Undercover faced sharp criticism over recent comments about Hong Kong protests against a controversial bill that would have allowed the extradition of criminal suspects to mainland China.
Many demonstrators feared the proposed law could be used to deport activists or political targets from Hong Kong, which for decades has operated under the policy of “one country, two systems.”
Earlier this month, Undercover posted a snap of the protests to its Instagram Story, captioned “No Extradition To China.” “Go Hong Kong,” it added in Chinese.
Some social media users in mainland China expressed outrage over the post. On Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, some vowed to throw out their Nike sneakers. One user posted a photo of shoes in a trash can.
“There is one China,” another user wrote, adding that they were offended by the studio’s comments. The same user uploaded a photo showing the “Undercover” logo on a Nike shoe crossed out.
Undercover declined to comment.
China is one of Nike’s largest and fastest-growing markets. It’s also a key manufacturing hub, with about a quarter of Nike’s footwear and apparel being made there in the 2018 fiscal year.
Go here to read the rest.  Some conservatives because of their belief in free markets, a belief that I share, have harbored illusions that large corporations are not our adversaries.  Harbor those illusions no longer.

Yep. I’ve long quoted a friend and former colleague from my Protestants days who said that without Christ, Capitalism is no better than Communism. Over the years, I got push-back from that, with questions of how this could ever be. Well, when companies conclude that the bottom line says it’s best to destroy America, freedom, religious liberty, Christianity and do so in the name of abortion and debauchery and anti-Americanism, I’d say we have some pretty good ideas.

I’ve suspected for some time that boycotts are effective or ineffective consequent to the assumptions corporate gatekeepers make about the world at large, which are in turn influenced by what’s up among their circle of friends. This sort of thing is indicative of the kultursmog among professional-managerial types in this country. Bad for ordinary Americans.
