During the French Revolution, Blessed Catherine Jarrige saved many priests. She only lost one, Servant of God Francois, Francois Filiol. After his execution, she took some of his blood and smeared it on the face of a blind child, who immediately recovered sight. The executioner, seeing this miracle, wailed,“I’m lost. I’m lost. I’ve killed a saint!”. Blessed Catherine was arrested many times by the French Revolutionary authorities but always released, the authorities fearing riots from the people who highly esteemed her. She survived the Revolution and died on July 4, 1836.
