That’s One Small Step For a

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

HOUSTON, TX—As a tribute to the 50th anniversary of its fake moon landing, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced a reboot of the staged event that fooled billions worldwide, only this time featuring an all-female crew.

NASA officials confirm they will release a shot-for-shot remake of the meticulously concocted phony moon landing, originally filmed at an undisclosed soundstage 50 years ago this week. The rejuvenated hoax will follow in the footsteps of other recent all-female reboots like Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 8.

“Those were some great buddy films,” a NASA spokesperson told reporters, “but we made the ultimate buddy movie in 1969 when we tricked all those people with Neil, Buzz, and Mike. We thought a modernized update was the perfect way to mark the occasion.”

Rumors claim the part of Neil Armstrong will be played by Scarlett Johansson, with Melissa McCarthy acting in the role of Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin. The Michael Collins character will be portrayed by Dame Judi Dench.

Go here to read the rest.  I don’t know Bee.  It sounds like a remake of Capricorn One (1977).  But which actress could play the role of Elliot Gould?  Of course, public scold Alyssa Milano if she can tear herself away from Twitter!

Capricorn One is a forgotten great movie

Telly Savalas stole the show. The rest of the film was cr!p.

My father’s observation at the time was that they posit a set of public agencies that are extraordinarily ruthless and extraordinarily deft – able, for example, to remove any trace of a troublesome NASA employee (“It’s like he never existed”); able to generate a hoax with such meticulous attention to detail that rank-and-file technicians at NASA (bar one guy) do not know they’re being conned along with the general public; and willing to kill anyone outside a certain circle who figures out what’s up. But somehow they cannot take out this one klutz reporter. (The film appeared during the Newseum era, when reporters were, at least in the addled heads of screenwriters, the Acme of civic-mindedness and courage).

Cheesy was the best one word definition of the Seventies.

For the most part, especially things having to do with personal grooming – clothing, haircuts, eyewear. Common and garden automobiles were junk. Music for mass entertainment was better than what came after (and, for the most part, what immediately preceded it). The architecture was wretched (something almost unrelentingly true for about 80 years now). Public policy was an error-laden mess in ways it hasn’t been since.

Oh, GADS no.

In El Paso they had the weekly top 40 from 40 years prior every Sunday, running about the time we were driving home from Mass.

Invariably, I’d turn it on, and invariably, I’d be reminding that there’s a reason there are “oldies” stations, and “80s” stations, but anything that carries the 70s is strictly by flavor.

De gustibus has some limits!

My favorite “The moon landing was faked” meme goes something like:
“NASA faked the moon landings. Unfortunately they hired Stanley Kubrick, a perfectionist, who insisted on filming it on site.”
