I am back and I will be doing a post on my vacation. Sadly the news cycle never takes a vacation. Two massacres in twenty-four hours in El Paso, Texas and in Dayton, Ohio. I am sure that the initial stories about both massacres will be wrong in details as they usually are, but the number of the dead, twenty-nine at last count are hard and sad facts. Only one prayer seems appropriate right now:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
May the dead see the Beatific Vision. May the wounded be restored to health. May their relatives and friends be comforted. May justice be done to the El Paso shooter. May we all recall why this life is so often called a vale of tears.
