Austen Ivereigh, the British journalist and biographer of Pope Francis, has stated that the circle surrounding Pope emeritus Benedict — which he said includes the Vatican’s former doctrine head Cardinal Müller — must be brought under “control” since it is a source of “scandal and of division.”
Ivereigh made these comments in an August 10 interview to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, in which he speaks about his upcoming book on Pope Francis, titled The Wounded Shepherd.
Speaking about those who he holds as resisting Pope Francis, Ivereigh points especially to the circle around Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, and most especially to Cardinal Gerhard Müller — the former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith — whom he describes as a “leader” of the opposition.
“We have to find a way to control his [Benedict’s] court, which is at this moment a source of scandal and of division,” he said.
Ivereigh singled out Cardinal Müller as one of the most senior voices of opposition against the way Pope Francis is leading the Catholic Church. He mentioned a “very vociferous and potent” group of Catholics which launches “a missile every month,” trying to “discredit him [the Pope]”.
“Cardinal Müller has become the leader, the main figure of the opposition. His tactic is to make people believe that there is confusion in the Church and that only he can solve it,” Ivereigh, the former press speaker of the deceased Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, stated.
For Ivereigh, Müller has attempted to “regain” his previously prominent “role” in the Church and that he is “pretending to be the watchdog of doctrine.” “But in the end,” Ivereigh continued, “he is a retired official of the Curia, that is to say, he has no position in the Church.” Ivereigh said that while there have always been “accusations of heresy” addressed to a Pope, it is now “unprecedented” that a former official of the Roman Curia “attacks a Pope so openly.”
When touching upon the relationship between Pope emeritus Benedict and Pope Francis, Ivereigh noted that the retired pope is “always very loyal” to Pope Francis. “But I also see a court around the Pope emeritus which is very tied to the resistance to the Pope,” he continued, adding that these people surrounding the pope emeritus are “manipulating” him.
“We have to find a way to control his [Benedict’s] court, which is at this moment a source of scandal and division,” the author added.
Go here to read the rest. Few writers have been more lick spittle to Pope Francis than Ivereigh, or more well connected to the current regime at the Vatican, so it is entirely possible that his comments mirror the thoughts of the gang surrounding Pope Francis if not Pope Francis.
Ivereigh is close. It should be titled The Shepherd Who Wounds. As far as this opposition from Cardinal Mueller, to what has it amounted? It just comes across as catty and disgruntled. There simply is no principled opposition coming out of the former curial officials. Other than a helpful soundbite now and then, we are pretty much on our own folks.

Substitute [Francis’s] for Benedict and I’d agree with that sentence.
“unprecedented” that a former official of the Roman Curia “attacks a Pope so openly.” Except of course when Paul “attacked” Peter, but for that you would have to be familiar with the bible and Church history.
I wish Benedict were living with his cousin in Australia. Not safe where he is.

To declare a voting Cardinal of the Church has no position in the Church, by a member of the laity, requires gaul! The mafia members appear to be either very confident or in great fear.
The snake squirms the most when its head is bruised, and Benedict’s court has bruised the head of the snake. In the end God wins, and the Maxist Peronist Caudillo loses. That’s what counts. Sadly though he will have led to many lives to perdition.

Ernst: with the current state of the episcopacy, I am surely expecting too much. I mean, actual Catholics know that Paul confronted Peter “to his face”. That was after Christ told Peter to “get behind me Satan”. So, one would think that actual Catholics were left with a model for what needed to be done, particularly where they have the duty to act. None of these fools appears to be an actual Catholic.

I’m not surprised by the comments of Archbishop Gomez. I wouldn’t be surprised had they come from practically any of our bishops. He sounds as if he could be any of the democrats running for president. What is it about our bishops that make them swallow leftist crap hook, line and sinker ? What is it that makes them ignore facts and spew stuff like “white nationalists” meaning Trump? All of these things happening I believe are driven by a demonic spirit that seems to have enveloped this country. I don’t know what else would make bishops think they way they do. They are no better than leftist.
