Predictable

One comes to expect heresy from Jesuits and one is rarely disappointed:

The superior general of the Society of Jesus said Aug. 21 that the devil is a symbol, but not a person.

The devil, “exists as the personification of evil in different structures, but not in persons, because is not a person, is a way of acting evil. He is not a person like a human person. It is a way of evil to be present in human life,” Jesuit Father Arturo Sosa said Wednesday in an interview with Italian magazine Tempi.

“Good and evil are in a permanent war in the human conscience and we have ways to point them out. We recognize God as good, fully good. Symbols are part of reality, and the devil exists as a symbolic reality, not as a personal reality,” he added.

Go here to read the rest. Contemporary leftists seem to believe in little beyond leftism, homosexuality and attacking the Church.  In regard to the Fiend:

II. THE FALL OF THE ANGELS

391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy.266 Scripture and the Church’s Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called “Satan” or the “devil”.267 The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: “The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing.”268

392 Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels.269 This “fall” consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. We find a reflection of that rebellion in the tempter’s words to our first parents: “You will be like God.”270 The devil “has sinned from the beginning”; he is “a liar and the father of lies”.271

393 It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels’ sin unforgivable. “There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death.”272

394 Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls “a murderer from the beginning”, who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father.273 “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”274 In its consequences the gravest of these works was the mendacious seduction that led man to disobey God.

395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God’s reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries – of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but “we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him.”275

As CS Lewis noted, convincing Men that they do not exist is a prime strategy of demons:

I wonder you should ask me whether it is essential to keep the patient in ignorance of your own existence. that question, at least for the present phase of the struggle, has been answered for us by the high Command. our policy, for the moment, is to conceal ourselves. of course this has not always been so. We are really faced with a cruel dilemma. When the humans disbelieve in our existence we lose all the pleasing results of direct terrorism and we make no magicians. on the other hand, when they believe in us, we cannot make them materialists and sceptics. at least, not yet. i have great hopes that we shall learn in due time how to emotionalise and mythologise their science to such an extent that what is, in effect, a belief in us, (though not under that name) will creep in while the human mind remains closed to belief in the enemy. the “life force”, the worship of sex, and some aspects of Psychoanalysis, may here prove useful. If once we can produce our perfect work — the Materialist Magician, the man, not using, but veritably worshipping, what he vaguely calls “forces” while denying the existence of “spirits” — then the end of the war will be in sight. but in the meantime we must obey our orders. i do not think you will have much difficulty in keeping the patient in the dark. the fact that “devils” are predominantly comic figures in the modern imagination will help you. if any faint suspicion of your existence begins to arise in his mind, suggest to him a picture of something in red tights, and persuade him that since he cannot believe in that (it is an old textbook method of confusing them) he therefore cannot believe in you.

I am sure the antics of most Jesuits on Earth provide much mirth to the demons in Hell, although likely little to Jesuits in Hell.

That “symbol” is speaking loudly in the ears of the Superior General. Amazing.
He hears and he obeys.

This is an example of what happens to a religious when the world has taken hold on him/her. The knee time lessens. The holy hours becomes holy minutes. The Rosary becomes a necklace. The Office of the Hours becomes a paperweight.

CS Lewis dialed in on Satan. The son of perdition. Symbolism? All one has to do is ask the assassins that took out multiple innocent lives in random acts of violence whom they heard before pulling the trigger. Many of them said they heard voices.

Jesuit in good standing? Fr. John Hardon God rest his soul. The last of the true Jesuits? Could be.

Why is it that the text of Dominus ac Redemptor (Pope Clement XIV’s Bull suppressing the Jesuits) can be found only on a Protestant web site?

If they don’t repent, then it is time to throw the Jesuits along with the liberals out of the Church. Sadly however that cannot happen without the Holy Spirit’s direct intervention because of the Marxist Peronist Caudillo currently occupying the Seat of St. Peter is one of them.

Please O Lord, how many more embarrassments must we Catholics endure? It has been said that sociological ills are a result of a god-syndrome. No truer analysis can be applied to many if not most of (so-called) Catholic hierarchy today.

The devil would say there is no such thing as an actual devil. Well done, Sosa. I refuse to call him Father.

“Imagine a Catholic Religious Order run by heretics . . .”
.
Or imagine a “movement church” (not a mainline Protestant denomination–more like a “house church” in a church type building–so they are similar to heretics, right?) that is more Catholic than the current, er, Roman Catholic Church, or at least her hierarchy. Seriously. I was at such a community today, and the realness of Jesus’ statements in John 6:52-71 came up. The preacher (not even the regular pastor of that community) noted that teaching as if he and everyone in the community was totally on board and accepted it at face value.
,
Oh the irony!! A woman in the congregation told me and some teens during coffee about the realness of Satan some weeks back, and now a minister talks of the realness of the Body and Blood. Mind you–neither of these people have any qualifications that a Catholic would accept as valid.

“Do you believe in the Devil? You know, a supreme evil being dedicated to the temptation, corruption, and destruction of man?”
“I’m not sure man needs the help.”
Calvin & Hobbes

Though a bit of humor aside, for me proof of the devil to me always seems evident in the treatment of Jews. Mistreatment of minorities is plenty in our species’ sad history, yet often the cruelty towards them seems to go beyond all reason that one could find in a purely material universe. A malevolent force with a deep, ever burning hatred for a people chosen by its mortal enemy thus seems fairly evident.

If Nixon could go to China, Pope Francis can suppress the Jesuits.

If Nixon could go to China, Pope Francis can suppress the Jesuits.

A quibble: Nixon came to public attention by exposing Alger Hiss. He was known at the time as someone who made hay about the activities of the Communist Party domestically. I don’t recall he was, per the spectrum of the day, notably militant in regard to foreign affairs. In matters of rhetoric, he was more circumspect than John Kennedy in foreign affairs. Someone said of Nixon ca. 1968, “Give him a choice of a number from one to ten and he will always choose five”. That faculty / pressroom liberals had a visceral hatred of the man was an indication they had issues. It wasn’t a function of his programmatic preferences. Issues were fungible to Nixon, and to the extent they weren’t, he favored Rockefeller’s perspective over Reagan’s. The Eisenhower scions vote Democratic these days and Edward Cox and his son are not known to take astringent positions on any issue.
