Trump’s plan to have the Democrats do the heavy work in his re-election next year is going swimmingly. The insane Left in the House has fastened upon Trump’s purported attempt to influence the Ukrainian government to reopen the Bursima investigation as the magic bullet to finally kill Trump. One of many problems with this analysis is that it focuses attention on the manifest fact that Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, who was being paid 50K a month by Bursima, was engaged in the corrupt practice of trading on his name and influence peddling, something he has done his entire career, between bouts in rehab and having an affair with his dead brother’s widow. This was done while dear old Dad was in charge of Ukraine policy, Obama usually giving unimportant jobs to Biden in an attempt to keep him out of mischief. Daddy dearest shook down the Ukrainian government to fire the prosecutor who had opened an investigation into Bursima, which was widely thought to be a huge money laundering scheme. Biden succeeded, and, Shazam!, the replacement prosecutor closed the investigation into Bursima. Hunter Biden earned a total of three million bucks from Bursima for providing such vital services.
So the Democrat strategy is that Trump is unfit for office in that he was attempting to get the Ukrainian government to reopen an investigation that was stopped because Biden threatened to hold up American aid to the Ukraine, but that what Biden did to protect his slimy son was fine and dandy? Pass the popcorn. The Democrats have been playing chess with Trump since 2016 and they obligingly hit themselves in the head with a mallet before making each of their moves.
What is the impact on Trump’s chances for victory in 2020? Answer: Improvement. Why?
Both Biden and Hillary will have dirty laundry exposed.
Opposition research is just normal in politics showing that Trump’s “crime”, if any, is small potatoes.
Trump’s base will be electrified more than it already is.
Democrats will again be exposed as hypocrites undermining a duly elected President for purely political reasons while fanning the flames of hate and division.

I saw Adam Schiff interviewed on CBS this morning. He said that Trump had not just pressured Ukraine to investigate, but that Trump wanted Ukraine to “manufacture” evidence against Biden. That’s the first I’ve heard that claim, or am I missing something? He also said Trump made the claim himself, but I don’t recall Trump saying he threatened to withhold aid unless Ukraine manufactures evidence against Biden. Again, wanting to make sure I didn’t miss something.

The other knock-on effect is impeachment nationalizes the down-ticket races. Outside the left coast and the furtherleft coast, that benefits the GOP.
Adam Schiff is a well known Congressional fantasist, to put it politely.
Of course if Trump did in fact do what Schiff claims, the offense would be serious and potentially impeachable. The problem for the Dems is that they have become one giant boy who cried wolf with little credibility, which means that they really need serious evidence. As best I can tell so far they have no evidence at all — just bald-faced assertions.

Bingo Mike. I see Warren’s squaw prints all over this. Knock off Biden and her path to the nomination is clear, with all sensible Democrats shuddering that they might as well concede 2020. Wheels within wheels.
As others have commented It seems that the Dem party is trying to find a way to get Biden out to pasture. As a side note, way too early for yard signs but the ones that are popping up are all Warren.
I voted third party in the last election, but I will certainly be voting for Trump in the next one. Regarding the Democratic front-runner, it reminds me of the 90’s movie “Fallen”, where the demon moves from person to person to possess them and commit crimes. We can be sure the front runner is the same, even if the body it possesses is different.

About 15 years ago, I saw a small bit of commentary from someone who had (IIRC) been on someone’s congressional staff. The gist of his remarks was that politicians are not adaptable. They do what has worked for them in the past, and when it stops working, they still do what they know.
Pelosi’s 79 years old. She’s given no evidence in the course of her life that she has skills applicable in the public sphere which extend beyond working a room and conniving among peers. She’s never faced a competitive election. The district she represents has had three different sets of boundaries since she was elected, but in all cases encompassed the bulk of the City and County of San Francisco. That area had a vigorous Republican minority in 1980, but that minority disappeared in short order consequent to preference cascade and migration patterns. Walter Mondale carried San Francisco County by a large margin in 1984, as has every Democrat since. She received the endorsement of the cancer stricken Sala Burton in 1987 and she’s coasted ever since.
Once in a while, I check out The American Conservative. After reading the articles and comments for a short time, I am reminded why I rarely bother with it.
I consider Rod Dreher to be a holier than thou pull up wearer who has his mother put in his binky when he drops it. Being disgusted with the Catholic bishops should come normally. Running off to the Orthodox was an act of cowardice. His whining about Trump is John Kasich-esque. His combox is 95% echo chamber. He and his cohorts want an isolationist Dubya to occupy the Oval Office and whine when it doesn’t happen.
That phone call conversation is not a crime and all of the accusations by Dreher, Napolitano, Mittens and the Democrats cannot make it so.

Cooler heads than Dreher (e.g. John Zmirak) have suggested that Orthodoxy might be a refuge.
The personal is the political with Dreher, and it’s quite unusual when the position he takes isn’t other-directed and emotions-driven. As for his comboxes, they attract a couple of different types. Even five or six years ago there were only a couple of conventionally starboard characters offering opinions there, and one of them was banned by Dreher in one of his rages (that one would be me). He protects his favorites from astringent criticism (e.g. Siarlys Jenkins and so help me Damon Linker).
And the phony little ticks. He’s forever getting a missive over the transom from some ‘friend’ who is an expert in some field who confirms his latest whinges.
Just out of puerile curiosity, I’d be interested in knowing which of his proximate relatives is still speaking to him. He moves back to West Feliciana Parish, and he swears up and down he’ll never leave, and he then decamps to Baton Rouge within a couple of years. (West Feliciana Parish is countryside, with a village of about 1,700 people at it’s core; Baton Rouge is a Toledo-sized urban glob). In a daisy-chain of oversharing, his readers got to learn that neice no. 1 spilled the beans that his deceased sister, neice no. 2, neice no. 3, and his brother-in-law were continually irked, bored, and impatient with him. In another such episode, his readers were treated to cell phone pictures of his father while the man was in his final illness.

He doesn’t participate in the comboxes there, AFAIK. However, he was at one time frequently quoted as an authority by Dreher. Which should tell you something about Dreher (and other media figures) as judges of character.
Linker was a spot participant in discussions at a defunct political blog called No Left Turns, as well as one of the original incarnation of The American Scene. No Left Turns was a group effort moderated by Joseph Knippenberg, a college teacher in Georgia, and hosted at the Ashbrook Center. Watching Knippenberg politely and pleasantly pwn Dr. Linker did rather explain why the latter had had some trouble building an academic career.
Linker’s shady conduct over the years suggests a man with a great deal of impractical education trying to hustle a salary from the unawares. He worked for Brigham Young for a while, then in Rudolph Giuliani’s PR apparat, then for Fr. Neuhaus. Fr. Neuhaus dismissed objections from his editorial board when he appointed Linker editor of First Things. I’d be fascinated what tells the editorial board picked up on that went over Fr. Neuhaus’ head. The whole business was one of the stranger episodes in American opinion journalism I can recall.
