PopeWatch: Amazon Spirit

The Pope’s opening remarks at the Amazon Synod:

In his opening remarks for the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region Monday, Pope Francis said the assembly’s working document is meant to be “destroyed” as the starting point of the work of the Holy Spirit, who he prays will guide the synodal process.

“Synod is to walk together under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit,” the Pope said inside the Synod Hall Oct. 7. “The Holy Spirit is the main actor of the synod. Please, let’s not throw it out of the room.”

Pope Francis, speaking in Spanish, explained that in the two years leading to this point there have been consultations and discussions within bishops’ conferences and at the pre-synodal council to create the synod’s working document.

The much-discussed working document, called the instrumentum laboris, “is a martyr text destined to be destroyed, because that is where it is as a starting point for what the Spirit will do in us,” he stated.

The Pope noted that it is normal to experience resistance in the Christian life but said “now we walk under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Now we must let the Holy Spirit express himself in this assembly, express himself among us, express himself with us, through us, and express himself despite us.”

What the Amazon Synod produces will come straight from God and anyone who disagrees is a bad Christian.

PopeWatch once defended a gambler who cheated at cards.  When asked what the hardest part of cheating at cards was, the gambler replied:  To act surprised after winning a completely rigged game.

It is getting so much harder in life to distinguish the difference between a Roman “religion” and Washington politics.

His chutzpah has no limits. P.T. Barnum would be proud.

It is important to know that when Jesus Christ empowered the apostles: “Whoever’s sins you shall forgive they are forgiven them and whoever’s sins you shall retain they are retained.” Jesus Christ spoke to the whole Catholic Church, all the bishops, the cardinals and St. Peter, the first Pope. Jesus Christ empowered the Magisterium in conjunction with St. Peter, the first Pope to forgive sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Does Pope Francis the First hear confessions of the sodomites, the divorced and remarried, the assault and batterers of children?
Any persons seeking admission to the Sacrament of Holy Orders must have a calling, a vocation from God to Holy Orders. A person may pray for a vocation if he so chooses. Praying for a vocation is not a vocation. So far Jesus Christ has not called any women to the Sacrament of Holy Orders to transubstantiate his Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, nor has Jesus Christ called a women to forgive sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Our Blessed Mother did not desire the office of Holy Orders. Our Lady is the perfect woman.
The feminists would covet our Lord’s Divinity and Pope Francis the First’s job.
When one does not pursue his destiny and accomplish him or herself, he or she is lost in space perhaps forever. A person can only accomplish him or herself by following the call of God, the individual vocation to be oneself.
The Amazonians may be uncivilized, may be cannibals and head hunters, but the Amazonians are not stupid.

I rather imagine that if the participants truly listen to, and allow themselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit, we have nothing to fear.
On the other hand, if the Synod vomits up for us a dog’s breakfast, God have mercy on the blaspemers who credit that to His Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament there are clear passages where the coming of Christ and a new covenant is foretold by the prophets. Christ’s New Covenant is eternal. The Holy Spirit was sent at Pentecost, so after Pentecost God was all in. There are no further Persons of the Trinity to send to propose a radical new Church, or a radical new dispensation. In fact the New Testament contains warnings to hold fast to the faith against impostors. In New Testament times God allowed Jerusalem to be put to the sword, and the Temple to be destroyed. He has also allowed the Catholic Church to become a divided kingdom, no different than faithless Israel. The kings and people of ancient Israel became faithless when they became worldly.

I’m of the view that the Holy Spirit is used way too often as a stage prop for acts of spiritual ventriloquism. Makes one wonder if putting words in the Holy Spirit’s mouth is taking the name of God in vain.
