The crowd currently in control of Mother Church are doing their best to play out in real time every stereotype anti-Catholic bigots have ever had about the Church:
Vatican City, Oct 15, 2019 / 09:44 am (CNA).- The Vatican promoted the launch of a ‘smart rosary’ bracelet Tuesday compatible with an iOS and Android app, which costs over $100.
“In a world of indifference and in the face of so many injustices, poverty, elementary rights denied, praying for peace in the world means reconciling ourselves in our daily relationships, with the poorest, with the stranger, with different cultures and spiritual and religious traditions, but also with our land, our forests, our rivers and oceans,” Fr. Frédéric Fornos, SJ said in a press release sent by the Holy See Press Office Oct. 14.
“The rosary is a beautiful spiritual tradition for contemplating the Gospel with Mary, it is a simple and humble prayer,” he said.
The “eRosary” bracelet is activated by making the sign of the cross, and is synced to an app, “Click to Pray eRosary” that tracks the user’s progress and contains visual aids and audio reflections on the mysteries of the rosary.
Go here to read the rest. At least in the Sixteenth Century the money raised was often used to fund imperishable works of art and the building of new churches. Based on current headlines on Vatican finances, faithful Catholics should assume that every dollar they give to the Vatican will be used for purposes that would make them nauseated. I will stick with my old, free Rosary, thank you very much.
Because nothing says “I care” about indifference, injustice, rights, poverty, the poor & the stranger quite like Catholic bling.
How do you get a traditional priest to bless the app? Can you put this on autoplay while you watch an NBA game? If two or three phones are placed together with the app, is Jorge there with them? Guy, Texas
There are lots of good Apps out there, and lots of good internet resources. But for my personal devotionals, give me my real Rosary and my real Bible that I can hold in my hands. There’s something sacrilegious about using these Apps in devotionals with the Lord. I want my alone time with Him to be alone and without electronic distractions – just my Rosay, my Bible & Him. Guess I am old fashion.
PS, if the Vatican cares about the poor so much, then why not have people use inexpensive hand Rosaries, and devote the money to be spent on an expensive App to the poor instead?
In Israel I bought some rosaries for catholic friends. I feel a bit better knowing the money went to Christian brothers in Palestine and the maintenance of the church of beatitudes.
I agree with LQC. With all the distractions, good and bad, that one can have on a phone today why add a rosary App in all that noise? Who will not be tempted to open a text, a call etc..that pops in while you’re trying to say the rosary? Easier does not make something better. A rosary can be recited with and without a rosary in hand if one does not have one at the ready. This gives me a sick if not uncomfortable feeling of further modernizing our faith when past practices have always sufficed. I’m sure the ones who came up with this App did not have anything malicious in mind when offering it to the public.
Would it be okay to watch a Mass on TV if you can’t make it physically because of illness and having an actual Host delivered by drone at Communion? It would be easier and more convenient yes?
