Hunter Biden and his Ukrainian gas firm colleagues had multiple contacts with the Obama State Department during the 2016 election cycle, including one just a month before Vice President Joe Biden forced Ukraine to fire the prosecutor investigating his son’s company for corruption, newly released memos show.
During that February 2016 contact, a U.S. representative for Burisma Holdings sought a meeting with Undersecretary of State Catherine A. Novelli to discuss ending the corruption allegations against the Ukrainian firm where Hunter Biden worked as a board member, according to memos obtained under a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. (I filed that suit this summer with the help of the public interest law firm the Southeastern Legal Foundation.)
Just three weeks before Burisma’s overture to State, Ukrainian authorities raided the home of the oligarch who owned the gas firm and employed Hunter Biden, a signal the long-running corruption probe was escalating in the middle of the U.S. presidential election.
Hunter Biden’s name, in fact, was specifically invoked by the Burisma representative as a reason the State Department should help, according to a series of email exchanges among U.S. officials trying to arrange the meeting. The subject line for the email exchanges read simply “Burisma.”

Joe Biden’s son — who has no known expertise in the fields of
production, transport or distribution of natural gas, nor in the
complexities of the legal and financial requirements of a Ukrainian
gas company– was invited onto that company’s board and took
home over $850,000 in the five years he “served”. It’s reasonable
to wonder just what he brought to Burisma’s table, considering
his utter lack of qualifications to justify such a salary… (eyeroll)
Of course Hunter Biden was cashing in on his connection to
his dad, the Vice President. And it seems Biden Sr. was happy
to run interference for his son’s employers upon request.
I’m not sure if Joe Biden is so accustomed to such corruption
that he can’t see how anyone could object, or if he’s just
convinced that laws do not apply to people such as himself and
his family. Either way, none of our so-called “elites” in the DNC
nor in the media seem too interested in calling him out. So, maybe
“Quid Pro Joe” is right after all, and he and his family aren’t
beholden to the same laws and expectations as the rest of us.
I have to wonder if the folks who’ve promoted this Ukraine
‘scandal’ are looking for a twofer. Of course, gunning for
President Trump is Goal #1. But maybe, by drawing attention to
Biden’s blatant corruption, they’re also looking to derail his
presidential campaign and give one of their other candidates
a chance to shave away Biden’s lead in the polls? Of course, to
make that work, they’d have to persuade the media to overcome
their reluctance to say anything bad about a Democrat. And
they’d have to persuade the left that one of their own, the #2
man in the Obama administration, should be held to account.
Not sure if the left cares about the law enough to make that a
viable plan.
