Well, That Was Different Because Shut Up

The (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from H1N1 viruses that were circulating at the time of the pandemic. Few young people had any existing immunity (as detected by antibody response) to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus, but nearly one-third of people over 60 years old had antibodies against this virus, likely from exposure to an older H1N1 virus earlier in their lives. Since the (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from circulating H1N1 viruses, vaccination with seasonal flu vaccines offered little cross-protection against (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection. While a monovalent (H1N1)pdm09 vaccine was produced, it was not available in large quantities until late November—after the peak of illness during the second wave had come and gone in the United States. From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

Go here to read the rest.  I missed the part where we destroyed our economy back in 2009 because of flu hysteria.  Heads should roll over this debacle.

More to explorer

  1. Because now, you know, everyone who’s healthy is spreading diseases they don’t have to the elderly & immunocompromised, so you know, just because we didn’t know it back then, we should be forced against their wills to comply with this new hysteria that being healthy is a crime because you might be an asympomatic carrier and infect someone with some new scary sickness that they decided to name to make it even scarier. It’s a new world where everyone is offended by everything, and the new offense is being healthy.

  2. The world was different. Obama was president and that meant the media would do nothing to harm his presidency and future chance at reelection. Things have changed just a bit since then.

  3. It’s still 24/7 Get Trump Time.

That was different. Obama was president and they didn’t want to pin any negative on their fabricated magic worker.

I keep hearing no-good bums like Cuomo and DiBlasio crying that Trump isn’t doing enough. Maybe Trump should tell them to resign and appoint a Federal officer to run their state and city.

I keep hearing polymath geniuses scream about “exponential!”

Since 2 February 2020, are the numbers “exponential?” If so, how much “exponential” is greater numbers of tests where many positives don’t know even they’re ill?

It seems again, the elites are failing us.

Will we give them more power to wreck us?

  4. Bail out the hospitals or bail out the insurance companies, your pick.

This just proves why we need free universal health care for everyone!

  5. T. Shaw, The BOHICA Brothers was a comic strip in the midshipman magazine c. 1976 about two hapless mids who were always screwing
    up. Thanks for the memory..

  6. SNAFU is alive and thriving in a million government offices and conference rooms around the World.

Seen on Facebook. Two photos on dealing with a crisis: One WWII GI’s wading ashore from a landing craft. The other, a fat youth lying on a couch with a TV remote in his hand.

Also, re: canceled senior/spring break trips. In 2020, they can’t go to Fort Lauderdale. From 1965 to 1972, millions of youths enjoyed all expenses paid, year-long excursions to Vietnam.

  7. T. Shaw, on the news yesterday, I saw a picture of someone holding a sign that said “We’re the Greatest Generation.” I thought of that when I read your comment.

  8. Rod Dreher pens a column yesterday insisting the Trumps are analogous to the Ceausescus of Roumania. The NeverTrump types are quite adept at providing you with examples toward the thesis that American public life would be completely uninjured wree they to disappear from it.

  9. Some good advice:

“Stop panicking over the mortality percentage. It’s artificially elevated, and will only come down as testing improves.”

    worth a read.
