March 29, 2020: US Death Toll

Just to keep track of the nonsense that has wrecked our economy and generally made our politicians run around as if their fool heads were on fire, each day I publish the corona virus total death toll in the US based upon the latest data I can find.  A single death is an immense tragedy if you love the person.  However, we are not talking about love, but rather public policy, which should always involve a sober analysis of risk and cost.  Please recall that in a bad normal flu year our death toll in the US can be as high as 90,000.

Note this will be a total death toll since the beginning of this bad farce, and not a daily toll.  As of the beginning of March 29 the death toll is 2,229.  May the Perpetual Light shine upon them.

And the increase is largely in New York City– where if they were trying to make this a real disaster, I don’t know what else they’d do.

I’m not a mathematician or a statistician. I used to analyze financial statements and found rare cases wherein over-aggregation of data would skew outcomes.

They need to separate out of the national statistics NYC, NJ, and NYS. They skew them. NYC is the most densely populated large city in the USA and NJ, NYC, and NYS are run by idiots.

Another statistical suggestion. Stop assuming such stats as numbers of infected are precise or even quantifiable. The most precise data should be emphasized, like populations and numbers of deaths. .

Regarding T. Shaw’s comment, have you noticed that areas of highest infection rate seem to be Californication, the Soviet Socialist Republik of Washington State, the liberal progressive Northeast, the major urban centers around the Great Lakes, and Miami Dade in Florida – all places where liberal progressive Democrats congregate? That doesn’t mean conservative Christians have some special kind of immunity from on High against COVID-19. The rain falls equally on righteous and unrighteous. But what’s happening where baby murderers and sodomy sanctifiers dominate is very curious. Of course the prophet Ezekiel tells us that God takes NO pleasure in the death of the wicked, nor should we; but what would the Old Testament prophets say? What would John the Baptist say?

Now all this said, I could contract COVID-19. In fact, I could drop dead tonight from a heart attack or stroke. No one has a lock on invulnerability. But maybe this COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder that we should all repent.

LCQ-
I suspect it’s less a matter of politics than the mindset that will kill off infants and the disabled is also willing to “let die” those who are sick with a scary virus, and engage in less than top notch disease control with the vulnerable.

Foxfier, I think you’re correct. If Andy Cuomo will kill a baby at birth, then he would happily let die an elderly person with COVID-19. But on the other hand remember: he and those like him do that BECAUSE OF their Democrat politics where certain persons are less than human (recall how they treated blacks as slaves to be bought & sold in the early to mid-1800s), death is god and self-titillation, self-gratification is a sacrament.

I think the important variables are the prevalence of Trump Derangement Syndrome and Progressive virtue signalling among state and local decision makers.

Eh, going off of how bad most of those who tell me why I do stuff are at getting into thoughts I’ve ever had, I try to avoid deciding on which is the original assumption.

Philosophically, yes, there is the assumption that some people are lesser people and thus legitimate targets for death. Which route is taken to get there, I don’t know.

The only number truly relevant to me will be year over year total deaths for the US. I do agree with T Shaw about removing noise from the figures. I include China, Iran and Italy as noise from a data point of view; I’m not trying to diminish the loss of life.

Something is seriously weird in New York; they’re nearly half of the US reported deaths, ditto on cases, and that is hugely from New York City and VERY recent, in the last two weeks or so, with it getting more extreme very recently.

Hm, New York governor says they’re waiting 5 days for a confirmation test– maybe that’s why they’re reporting such big numbers in a lump? 5 days before the 28th would’ve been Monday the 23rd, send in a bunch of tests on Monday…..

It’s been in Seattle for months now– I was reminded that there was actually a positive test back before they were sure they could have a person-to-person transmission, guy flew in from China to Spokane, which means he had to brave SeaTac to switch planes. That was back in the middle of January.

Washington didn’t get an outbreak until the Kirkland nursing home thing hit at the start of Lent.

Yeah, New York had that stupid “scream at folks as racists if they don’t show off how not scared they are of transmission vectors for the Chinese new year” bunch of preening, but that was at the start of February. Where’s the huge number of deaths that SHOULD have been happening a few weeks after that, rather than a month and a half after that?

Are they testing the flu swabs of everybody who’s died in the last two months or something?

Poking around New York obits, I’m only finding three or four that mention Covid/Corona/ for anything beyond “and that’s why we’re not having a public service,” plus one guy who drank a bottle of that beer every day.
For comparison, Washington has three.
A tenth of the cases, and a fifth the deaths. When it got loose in nursing homes for starters.

Something there is not right.

Dr. Fauchi now says the worst case is now 200,000 dead. Even if true not worth destroying the economy.

Democrats want to control the economy. The worst the condition the more control they have.
