April 6, 2020: US Death Toll

Just to keep track of the nonsense that has wrecked our economy and generally made our politicians run around as if their fool heads were on fire, each day I publish the corona virus total death toll in the US based upon the latest data I can find.  A single death is an immense tragedy if you love the person.  However, we are not talking about love, but rather public policy, which should always involve a sober analysis of risk and cost.  Please recall that in a bad normal flu year our death toll in the US can be as high as 90,000.

Note:  this will be a total death toll since the beginning of this bad farce, and not a daily toll.  As of the beginning of April 6 the death toll is 9,620.  May the Perpetual Light shine upon them.

Agree 100% And the so call stay at home remedy will do much more extensive damage and kill many, many more.

And to show even more out of touch the CDC is here is what a Dr. Sidell in New York who attends to Covid-19 patients has to say about use of ventilators—they are killing the patients.

One of the Warden’s “Church Lady” friends is convinced that all this is hugely exaggerated, and she is quite vocal about it. Of course, I absolutely believe she (if anyone is) is going straight to Heaven.

Nassau County, NY is adjacent to Queens, NYC with say 1.25 million citizens. We have (a/o late 6 April 2020) about 12,000 cases and 64 KIA’s – all RIP had chronic health issues.

Mlive.com, a website dedicated to Michigan news, always ends their daily update with standard CDC advice for avoiding Coronavirus 19. The last piece of advice was always “It’s not to late to get your flu shot.” They no longer mention that though, and I’m forced to wonder why.

The weather is rapidly turning nice, though.

What happened to the Rule of Law? Since when did it become a Dictatorship where we MUST obey Orders?

I’m hearing that:
– there are less than 10 patients aboard the Navy Hospital ship in NY, meant to take over for overwhelmed NY hospitals.. They’re evidently not overwelmed.
– there are a total of 6K people in intensive care across the country, when the original projection for today for the country was ~30K.
– CDC recommendation is “if someone is “suspected” of having died,, ex 92 year old with heart issues, they count as # of deceased from the virus.”
– The number of persons who die from pneumonia each month is way down, now that could be social distancing, or it could be that those people are counted as virus deaths, or both.

We are of course basing all our actions as a country on models & projections.
Of course our “news media?” doesn’t ask serious questions, or ask for the people behind the scenes to be at the President’s news conferences to answer questions.
That group of Mutton mouths only know how to bleat “orange man baaad, orange man baaaaaaad”

We’ll learn much more this week. If the models are off, back to work with social dist.
Quickly, in Trump time..

In Chicago they are converting McCormick Place into a giant hospital for less severe cases. It will be operational by the end of April or early May; I’ll bet it never sees a single patient.

Illinois had a listed death last week of a woman over 100 years old. God rest her soul, but really?

David WS – That was 10 patients after three days. It’s been a week now and they’re up to 40. It sounds more like a coordination problem than a lack of need. They’ve been trying to keep the ship coronavirus-free, but they’ve had a couple of cases reported on it. NY wants the ship’s mission to shift to coronavirus care.

Of possible interest– another Medium article got up, gave data, gave links, made an argument, and got vanished.

Got the archive this time, though.

Thank you Foxfier: I’m sending this, along with Dr Sidells comments to my son.
.
Tomorrow MI Legislature votes to give The Governor her 70 day shut down. If they vote in favor, MI will be very, very badly damaged. Detroit was having a come back, but now I really wonder if they will pull it off.
