Our local churches have finally made their plans for mass known. My local priest has went crazy. His restrictions are:

-Despite both the state and the diocese giving the okay for reopening masses, no mass this week. Masses start next week.
-Only one mass a week.
-Only people who call before will be admitted.
-Masks required at all times.
-One way traffic only and only as directed by the ushers.
-Previously it had been promised that there would be more daily masses to accommodate people who might be turned away on Sunday. These will not happen. If things go well we might have a Saturday mass.

He then defends these restrictions by saying that “health officials on the news” are saying that it is “still too soon” and “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

Another church nearby did open masses this weekend, and I decided to go to the first mass available (the vigil mass). They spaced people out and encouraged masks, but did not require reservations or masks (about 3/4 of people work masks). They said that they would limit attendance to 150 (including overflow in the parish hall) but only 32 people were there in total, including the priest. I will likely swap my membership to this other church. Usually I stick with my local parish even if things go bad out of obedience, but if I can’t even go to mass there what’s the point?

It’s all part of the plan. Embrace it.
